whats a good make
whats worth going for around that price

Kodak makes a reasonable one but it uses a lot of battery to keep the large screen powered up.

Got this camera just before christmas. Its still on offer at this price in currys. A screen at the front and back, rechargable battery. Only downside is no case, but got one off ebay for 4 quid. Brilliant quality pictures and really easy to use and download etc.

Mrs Doug got me a fujifilm finepix 12mp for crimbo, has a lithium battery so no worries about going through the batteries. Not really tried it out yet so will be able to comment when I have done.

IMO good makes are Fuji, Nikon, Canon and Panasonic not nes' in that order. is it for portfolio type pictures, happy snaps? then for £200 you'll get a good one.

just want a decentish compact style, with a optical aswell as digital zoom around 14megapixels

i had an olympus for 6 yrs which wasnt bad but i'll look at the brands you mentioned aph ;0)

I've got a Panasonic TZ7 that I use for my portfolio and for site surveys (and happy snaps too!). It's got loads of features and is quick and accurate. Also got very good zoom which is useful when I'm checking the pointing and leadwork on a chimney. Not completely convinced by the pictures themselves, though. A bit grainy in low light. I still miss my Canon Digital Ixus which got filled with sand and orange juice at the beach last year ! Beautifully compact and lovely clear, colourful pictures.
