What do tilers class as hard to master

I'm trying to find out what are the things that tilers found hard to master when they started tiling?

One more question i'm tiling my mums bathroom floor but it's floorboards what's the standard in regards to the layers step by step?

what do you mean by layers?

1.remove wc and wash hand basin...dont attempt to cut round them.may need plumber

2.ply floor min 6mm depth

3.use flexible adhesive

4.plan job,suggest straight line from door as if you are marching in ...then row by row then cuts

5.let set ....grout

Far too thin ply for a floor, 12 mm at the least and only if you have strengthened the floor with extra noggins and screwed everything tight.

What are the tiles you are using?
You need to apply bond to the underside and edges of the ply.

The client is the hardest thing for a tiler to master. i am sat at home at the moment and was due to be at the house at 8am...a journey that would take 45 minutes in decent weather. I cant get further than 2 miles from my home due to the snow that fell last night. So i thought it was best return home...just after 8am a phone call from irate client asking where i am.
I will wait a while and try again :mad2:

it was grouting for me no matter what i seemed to do got more on me than the walls in my hair and everything glad to say thats now been masterd

2 things stand out for me..

1. good fluent use of the nippers takes a little time to perfect. lots of practicing on various tiles is the only answer imo.

2. setting out awareness!! you can be great at prep work, and skillfull at cutting but that all round awarness of ensuring your setting out an design features work perfectly becoming second nature is another time bearer..

just take your time graig and enjoy the process and what it makes you mate..dont put time limits on things it will only put you under unecessary pressure. respect the trade but try not to make it bigger than what it is and then you'll approach it more thoughtfully & confidentally.

3 way mitre on tile edge trims. when I first started I spent 3 hours trying to complete a 3 way mitre with 12mm edge trims:mad2:. In the end I phoned the guy that trained me........"cant be done" he says . 3 hours down the pan.

I thought the same but I think he might have left out it's because of the trims shape not the size

it was a homelux trim. its not the size that was a prob. homelux 12mm trims have a shallow curve.
