What do tilers class as hard to master

My first day at training centre found it a little difficult to be honest, we all learn in different ways dont we but with me it take a few times/attempts for even the simpliest of things which can lead to furstration at times.

I'm thinking of doing a log of each day in a new thread then when i'm explained to you lot what ive been doing day 1 day 2 day 3 etc etc i can get some feedback on each element of techniques ive been doing.

So in a nutshell at the moment i'm finding everything hard to do let alone master but cant expect to much from my first day can i.

Your learning never really ends..everyone gets frustrated at first, just remember to take your time! the best bit of advice I was given day 1 as an apprentice was 'the difference between a good job and a great one is patience!'

Rather then creating a thread with the day to day stuff will just keep this thread alive and woffle on about things ive been doing with some pics.

So day one was measuring and a little feature but only today i got the hang of measuring pretty much properly.

Day two was another little feature to get used to cutting etc. In the middle of this comes some theory work in diffrent aspects of tiling. We have covered a little on substrate, adhesives, devices, etc etc etc.

I wont talk to much about that because its just the nessasarys that go with tiling.

So day 3 has been about doing a bath splash back of our own accord without any help or any advice on laying out for which i stood around for lets say 30 to 40 mins trying to get some common sense from somewhere to start with my level, batton and pen.

Although i have done it wrong ive had a crack and thats what weer expected to do but what i struggled with is firstly finding out where to bang in my batten, secondly where to start of tiling which i instinctivly started in the middel of the wall by the way, and then trying to get my cuts for the bottom layer is proving slight niggaly as trying to allow for the grout line and the uneven bath causes my marking the tile problems.

I'm enjoying it very much in all honesty i get a real buzz out of which i did all them years ago. I fancy myself as a little bit of a perfectionist so even the laying 2 or 3 tiles im standing back for a little peek to see if all is level. Its very nice to take pride in even the smallest of detail but thats not to say my tiling is pretty naff but in time i hope to come good.

Do you have to take all the tiles back off when you have finished or do the cleaners come in at night?

is it a pts course you are doing, looks like it, if so they are good teachers they will see u alright, its good to double check and sometimes it pays to walk away from it for a min then go back and look again, it looks like u coming along nicely

3 way mitre on tile edge trims. when I first started I spent 3 hours trying to complete a 3 way mitre with 12mm edge trims:mad2:. In the end I phoned the guy that trained me........"cant be done" he says 😳. 3 hours down the pan.
