What do you use to remove old tiles?

if this holescenario happens when you satart your job you must make a decision to rip it off, because if you fart about round tiles that are to come off then you will be doing the job forever,so get tiles off and re-board.BRI:regular_smile:

Yeah i'm think this is a good idea!

I have just looked at the estimate I did and I have worded it as follows

Remove and dispose of old tiles £x

Prepare wall for tiling (assuming walls do NOT need re-plastering) £x

So I have cover myself in the estimate I think, plus I have told her it can happen.

I am probably worrying too much. I just don't want to get a bad rep off my first job.

My first will consist of turning off hot and cold water (somehow!), taking a toilet and sink out, removing old tiles, then possible reboarding or plastering or just small repairs, then retiling and refitting the toilet and sink!

I guess once I have done this I can do most things! lol

Once again thanks for your advice everyone!

dont dispose of old tiles get the customer to do it where i live you need a waste disposal licence to carry waste in your van and local tip wont allow you in if your disposing of works rubbish

She especially asked me so I am just charging her for it. I will stick them in the back of my car to take them to the tip along with all the ones from my bathroom!

When reboarding would you do it on top of the old one ? from the picture it doesn't look like a smooth surface. Obviously i think its better to reboard from new, would it be plasterboard or backerboard ?

All new builds since 2004 in USA,have used backerboard.Plasterboard is a thing of the past.Technology has finally won over,if Gyproc want to cry about it,then they should have developed backerboards!!!!!

Just to update, incase anyone cares, I filled the holes with rapid set. I built it up in payers adn it's a nice flat finish and all very sturdy now!

Cheers for the advice.

mmmmmm...who's advice was that? good lad

you can also patch up by using a small piece of plasterboad if the holes that big, attach a string line through the middle so you can pull it tight over the hole while you plaster

When removing old tiles no one can beat my method,I trained for years in the arts of the Jedi so when ever I want to remove tiles from the wall I just use the FORCE!
