Thread title says it all really.

I know there have been some threads about what advertising you do, but out of all the advertising that you do do, what would you say actually generates the most calls.

So if you could, just pop in a vote and a simple bit on why or how much more business or atleast interest you have had from a certain method of advertising.

Also, say what you think has been the biggest waste of time\energy or money too.

Best advert this year was tiling the priests house and giving him full discount. Got a constant flow of coffee morning gossip mongers all comparing kitchens and bathrooms and trying to out do each other on the fancy tiles thier getting. Only problem here is the day revolves around sausage rolls, tea 10 times a day, a proper it down hot lunch (which I dont even get at home these days) and the old fella getting in my way hobbling about with his overalls on ready to help out and asking question ontop of question about everything, and telling me stories about what it was like in his day. I now estimate a full day longer on these jobs.
I've advertised in the local press when I started and found it useless. People tend to go off recomendation around here

Forum,
So far i've found it very useful getting chatty with everyone thatworks in my local tile store and im now on their short list to do a display when they have a change around - They supply everything and then make up a little plaque with your business cards in.
Also i look at every job with the possibility that if a good word gets round, its more work for me. Keep a positive mental attitude and keep smiling:)

I find other than recommendations and tradesmen,my best advertising is my car signwriting,my company t-shirts and my business cards.People see the car or me in my t-shirts and come up and ask for my details,I just give them my cards.
Might have to start going out in my t-shirts on a saturday night:)

I said this to my wife the other day about getting a few t shirts done. Asked me why and told her that whenever we go for a shop at the local Tescos or something it could be surprising how many people ask you for a bit of info. It would be me wearing the T shirt by the way not both of us, walking around like a pair of twins :)

That is without a doubt true, but what Im also looking at is what is working for the less established tilers, who have not been going long enough to earn a good reputation.
Word of mouth, counts on every scale....not always about ability but mostly he did this for that....and then money isnt mentioned when they trust you
