Hi all, just a quick one. What brand of Silicon/mastic do you use?
After tiling in bathrooms, kitchens etc. when a white or clear Silicon is needed what are you guys using?
I've tried so many, ranging in price, not quite found anything I like to work with.

Was speaking to my window fitter mate who said that he was always told that if the Silicon smells like battery acid (really strong smell that makes you turn away when smelling) that it was not to be used.

Just after your preferences and reasons please, thanks

I use ever flex from tiletrader.
http://www.tradetiler.com/acatalog/siliconing_tiles.html
Its flexible & waterproof, as most silicones by their nature are plus anti fungal. Its a couple of quid and ive found it Ok to work with.

Try buybrandtools.com as well, Neil is one of the forums sponsors!
Thats the one I usually use too but you need to bear in mind it is not suitable for hygiene areas like work tops!

Goes on really well though I find.

I like the bal micro seal as well.........from CTD........

I use Bal Silicon all the time as i think Bal products are probably the best tiling materials a professional tiler can use. As my customers look at primer, Adhesive, grout and Silicon i use and if it said B&Q on it i don't think this gives the customer much confidence in you as a professional I know i can get cheaper but if there is a problem with the tiling i can feel confident that its not the materials i use.

Hi Bobbin,

Your after a Silicon that gives a good finish and is easy to work with, well I hate to keep banging on about it, but, if you use cornertape in the application of Silicon they are all easy to work with, cornertape isn't fussy, you get the same great finish with any Silicon, cheap or expensive.

Thanks
Andy

But, to keep a long lasting good finish you need to use a Silicon like Bal microseal with microban. IMHO.

I agree totally, you guys know which ones are best for a longer lasting finish. More so than us.

The ease of application is always the same (very very easy:yes: ) regardless of which brand is used when using cornertape and the finsh is allways the same at the time of application, what happens after that is down to the quality of the Silicon used.

Best regards
Andy
