as alot of people don't like height variation ive been considering using a 2 part adhesive but im a bit nervy of failures. so was considering laying 6mm or 9mm play to play it safe(in theory, i think this should be better) and then using a 2 part adhesive.

what is your prefared choice for floorboards?

Could use bal fastflex, Ditra matting or 6mm hardie backer board, would not lay 6 or 9mm ply to thin imo

Also remember Ditra is not a substitute for ply...the substrate needs to be solid before using it on wood..........

im saying a 6mm or 9mm ply and a 2 part(eg fastflex) its got to be better than just fastflex surely.

6mm knit all the boards tight, 3mm joints between boards.. then 2 part and GT1 additive to stanard wide jiont grout..no better job...when small scale...........Gaz

I have 9mm ply on my kitchen floor. Not the recommended thickness but my floor was rigid. I used Ardex 7001 and Ardexflex grout. The reason for plying out is to give strength to the floor to eliminate movement. If there is no movement then no need to have thick guage ply, IMO. Wouldn't personally use 6mm at is can leave voids underneath.

If you really need to keep it thin then use 6mm backerboard of the floor is not too flexible. You can then use normal Flexy addy and flexy grout.

I've used BAL Fastflex and although it's really messy - I love it!

Used on a medium size job where the floor was in good condition, not overly springy. The customer didn't want the level raising and as it turned out, with the time saved not plying out (which I don't really enjoy doing anyway) I made a better profit.

I'll try and switch ply for 2 part now wherever I can.

Of course, if the floor is knackered, i'd always aim to address this first.
