since you are now part of the family he should be showing you a bit more mutual respect and not putting you up against other tilers quotes imo,you hould be the one whos getting the work ..at an agreeable price of course and you should also have a major say in how its done. also since you have had no work for a year you think the guy might think of his daughter and family and give the work too you, dont like the sound of this one bit mate sorry

Mmmm, families, where to start..... explain to him why you want to do what you want to do, then if he still wants it doing and you feel pressured to do it, do it, when it fails you can say told you so, in the meantime, you'll have had his money spent, get paid again to do the job properly and have one over on him.

Family and work don't 'normally' mix.

Yep you are correct, he is stuck in his ways, been doing house building for 40 years blah blah blah! I think to keep the peace I will do the job correctly, only going to cost me some ply, primer and time. I will still earn out of the job, just not as much as I wanted, but as you say family and buisness do not mix. £xx per metre is the going rate for contractors down here in Devon. I quoted £xx and he nearly fell off his chair, this was the guide the course give us, saying that they are based in Harlow so prices differ to deepest darkest Devon, wish I was back in Herts sometimes..
Thanks for all your replys, you are an understanding bunch lol!

Ha ha! that is one big bonus.. As you say I will not lose, at least if I do it properly I can sleep at night:thumbsup:

Buy him a beer and talk it over man to man, not mouse to man. Maybe somebody somewhere is just waiting for you to show what you're made of? In the end it's the respect or lack thereof you feel toward your own decision that will stay with you the longest. Good luck

Apart from the family stuff the tiles will blow on Chip so it will come back to bite you.
lay 6mm plywood over the chip glue it first with good quality wood glue and use chipboard screws at 152mm centres otherwise you will have more grief than family.

Plus as the saying goes "One Life Live It" you will need to get acknowledged for who you are rather than being used as a tool.
Cheers Steve
