Which Adhesive when Glueing and Screwing backer board.

Hi All,

Job count is growing and loving the experience. Latest question is:

When glueing and screwing backer board in preparation for tiling, which adhesive do you use. I guess it has to be flexible and I know that its purpose is to fill any potential voids between the board and existing substrate rather than stick the backer board. I have used both Bal single part fast flex and Ardex 77 for the jobs I have done to date, I know, very expensive but the jobs were small enough and that is what I was using to fix the tiles. Just wondered if you guys had a preference for a much cheaper adhesive which you could use only for fixing backer boards. Thanks in anticipation for your wisdom.

I generally use the same as what I'm going to tile with, (single part flexible as standard), it saves having a few opened bags at the end of the job.

Thanks very much for that guys, I thought I was being a bit cavalier with the customer's money by using the expensive flexible adhesives, but I agree with Doug, it is better than having open bags of addy laying around. Ta.
