Which SLC do I use?

Hi Guys,

About to do 1st tiling job over newly laid UFH abt 38 sq m. Electrician is laying UFH. Can you advise me please;

Does SLC and adhesive need to be flexible?
Do I need to SL whole floor or just over wires?

and any tips on self levelling techniques as used once before and ended up with a small rise in floor .

Hi MJ

you do need to use flexible SLC and also flexible adhesive. I would cover the whole of the wiring loom in order to protect it and aid the heat transfer. Have you fitted insulation boards? If so then these should have taken out any dips or hollows in the floor already.
What tiles are you fixing and have you thought about expansion issues?

as diamond says flexy slc & adhesive,test ufh prior to screeding,follow instructions on slc bags ,what amount of water to use , if its the cable type be careful as it can rise to top of slc if not stuck to substrate properly i.e with glue or correct tape.

hello as abover,if possible(pricewise ) i always try and get a hold of mapei fibreplan.....out of all the levellers ive used this is the closest one i have found that actually does what it says and self levels its more expensive however

dont skimp on materials just to save a few quid .false economy not worth it

Have you installed insulation boards as well...? other wise it will cost a fortune to run it..

Use some tape or a glue gun to hold the wire down before you use slc, the slc could push the wires up

i liked tjs post on how he sets ufh...uses a rubber float and flexi adhesive..keeps the lot flat then self levels once set
