I primarily use a system from Ardex called "Tricom". I don't think it's availible in the UK.

Here'e a link to a PDF about it. It's in swedish, but you can still look at the pictures.

Essentially, it's a water and vapor proof membrane which you apply with either a ready mixed wpc (for absorbant substrates), or a two component wpc (for non-absorbant substrates, or when you're in a hurry). Fairly fast to apply, and it's tileable after two to six hours, depending on which WPC was used.

The two component WPC can be used without the membrane in situations where there is rising damp, ie old cellars, as well.

But sooooooooooooooooooooooooo expensive !!!!!

..

Bit of a petty statement.....Which systems are you comparing it with?

Anyhow when I was pricing up I found that the price was competitive and all the items contained in the aquaproof tanking kit are also available iseparately something other wetroom tanking suppliers do not offer.

Can you tell me which waterproofing/tanking products you use....if the one you use isn't on the list then let me know and I'll add it....

No mention here of Wedi? I've done 2 wetrooms and my own shower cubicle using their products, they are excellent. Especially the pre-formed shower trays.

These are waterproofing/tanking products....not trays or backer boards....but thanks for bringing it up...

Surely Wedi is both? Its more than just a tile backer board - when used with its waterproof tape over the joints, its a full tanking solution, hence why I use it in wetrooms.

Or do you mean that the products listed in this thread are even more effective, i.e. they are virtually swimming pool level? Reason I ask, is that I fell into using Wedi board, but would be interested if there is a better solution or other solutions. I trust the wedi stuff, because I've used it (and its german I think), no other reason.

Wedi is a waterproof backer board..YES......but i was just interested in tanking solutions or membranes.......but i could add backerboards if you wish....

as ever - I'm confused

If you have time, could you explain better. Because I thought that tanking was something you did to stop damp getting into cellars etc. - I presume a membrane might do a similar job. However, in the context of tiling - I presumed that tanking/membranes would be used for making showers or wetrooms (keeping the water in - not out). Hence, why I thought Wedi belonged in the list. But perhaps I have not considered some other use for the tanking/membranes etc. that are listed and I'd like to learn more.
