Dont think the plaster was left long enough to dry, not saying that was the prob but not good practise. is the adhesive supposed to turn brown then back to white , i have never used that brand before?? good tip on the liberon sealer wetdec.

They are known I think mostly for wood sealers polishes etc............

Stick to what your good at aye......................

Thanks guys. Whatever caused the brown staining i decided to just leave the tiles and see what happened and slowly they are now almost back to their original colour although veins remain a darker colour but i don't mind that. Whatever it was must be drying out through gaps. we're going to grout monday and i'm just keeping fingers crossed that this doesn't change anything. will use lithofin as final sealant. should we do anything else to keep them watertight as want to avoid water oxidising inside in the future and rusting a red colour which is a possibility i read about.

Thanks for replying! The adhesive was Granfix flexible white-white powder and light brown when mixed with water and then dried white. The sealant was Liberon natural stone sealant. Your comment about the plaster has started alarm bells as the floor tiles haven't discoloured only the wall tiles. The wall was plastered a week before tiling and no, it wasn't primed/sealed. Should it have been? The problem started immediately after sealing-if it is the water seeping through from plaster should we try to remove sealant to allow it to escape? Haven't grouted yet. Will get pics!
don't think this is the problem, but, yes, it should have been primed
