Discuss Why not use ready mixed adhesive? in the British & UK Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.
Well, just to conclude. I know you "experts" would never be happy until I conceded and used powder, so I took the tub back and got powder, being finally persuaded by the reply explaining about engobe etc.
Pros- good grip/adhesion
Cons-inconvenience of mixing, having to mix small amounts so meaning even more mixing and cleaning of tools and buckets, and having to plan in such a way as not to waste any.
not very long time for correction, manoeuvring .
Expensive compared to ready-mixed.(just remember, amateurs don't get it trade!)
So the job is done, and is ok and probably the right adhesive was used for the tiles I was using, but the moral to the story is don't buy tiles that require powdered adhesive if you're an amateur like me who only tiles once in a blue moon and takes a lot longer than the pros. So thanks again for the replies and advice, folks. Ready mixed for me, though.
Didn't ignore you, just not seen it anywhere. Thanks anyway. I would still use ready mixed in the future should I ever have to tile again, which is unlikely at my age.I sent you a link to some powdered adhesive that has better grip/grab than any pre mixed adhesive, and you can keep it in the bucket for a couple of hours easy. Its not my fault you ignored me.
