slightly off topic but is there any way to find out if any floor iam pricing is a floating floor ? how do you tell ?

Pull the floor covering back and look for fixings at around 450mm centres.. if the boards are fixing free , then a floating floor..

Hope this isn't a daft question but why would a chipboard floor be floating? I've always thought of a floating floor as not being fixed at all. What am I misunderstanding?

It is a none fixed floor.. built for warmth and not stability.

Dave, what is "floating"? The subfloor? Is it NOT fastened to the joists? I'm having a hard time visualizing this.

The sub floor is usually rigid, but the 'floating floor' is not fixed or glued.

A good example of floating floors would be laminate (clic system) or engineered floors.

That's how I understood it. It's just I've never seen a floating subfloor.
