ZenForo is the software used by a tiling forum we know of. And the software development has now been halted due to legal action.

BREAKING: Xenforo Staff Admits Development Is Stopped! | Xenforo Sucks | Best Forum Software Isn't Xenforo
The end is near for XenForo... part dos! R.I.P. XenForo

There's a case in court in Jan and until then the founders of the software have recently admitted that they're not continuing to update it.

This naturally means that security updates which often occur with our software on a monthly basis, will be no more for XenForo.

This means that the forum would have to be ported over to a supported software version, or be left insecure.

Seems Internet Brands, who own vBulletin (which is the software we mostly use) has issues with the makers of XenForo (which is a british firm) and code they claim they have copied.

As a result they've been in a legal battle for a good few months now, if not longer. And the owners/founders of XenForo have fell out.

It's left them with Administrators of the forum only left to run their forums. Fellow members are helping with code issues rather than the software developers.

They're saying it is still supported (they'd have to, they've taken payments for the software) although they admit they're not working on it anymore and there wont be any more updates.

15th Jan is the next court date. When not much will happen but them all submit whiteness' to the case. They're dragging in old staff for VB who are claimed to have worked on XenForo by the looks of it.

This case will go on until XenForo quit defending. I can't see either actually winning.

But it's a shame to think security and features wont be updated anymore. Makes a forum vulnerable to attacks as people can easily find out what software version forums are running and they use commonly known (often already reported publicly) loop holes to gain access to the domain which can cause all sorts of issues.

It's a shame to see a british company get trod on by the American corps once again but it's just the way it is. They own software and don't like it when anybody else has their foot in the door.
