Yell.com / Yellow Pages...

Does anyone advertise on here?

its £370 per year or £210 per year to advertise locally! or the free listing!
Is it worth the money, speculate to accumilate and all that but does it actually generate business?

If anyones on there, i would appreciate a heads up on the ammount of calls / estimates you can generate from being on there, or another similar adverising spaces!

Thanks in advance...

i recieved 2 calls in an entire year from a paid listing, luckily i got both jobs and made it pay for itself(just),so i would advise to use the free listing, think several people on the forum have paid and not been to impressed with the return

cheers david,

im on the free listing, and im contantly getting calls to upgrade to paid listings! just wandered if it was worth it!

I had a free listing but only had one call. i got loads of calls from Yell telling me to upgrade though....waste of time.

You have to ask yourself when was the last time you used yell for a number? Me urrrrr NEVER!

in my opinion, they are the worst advertising company i have ever had the misfortune to deal with

i paid £1745-00p for a 2nd placed sponsored listing...they were really polite and helpful right upto the point they took my money!!!

error after error after error regarding listing my tel numbers incorrectly to taking off my weblink. you name it they did it...i would never put money in their till again!

stats...they always go on about, x amount of people looked at your ad today etc etc etc but when it comes to actual enquiries then they have been poor where i am concerned. they were the only form of paid advertising i used in 2009 and i received,
7 email enquiries and 4 phone calls that i could establish were from yell...
2 plans came in the post from builders....not very impressive fpor the money i laid out.

i got 2 jobs out of the 13 enquiries totalling £800-00p profit
4 of the email enquiries didnt proceed due to lack of budget
1 of the builders who sent plans went into adminstration
1 phone enquiry got a cheaper price than mine (£70 for a 8 meter kitchen floor!!)
1 i could do the job when they wanted it doing (the next week)

i think you have a better chance of getting work from your own efforts rather than yell.....tilersforums and optimising your site via the search engines makes far more sense to me now!

i paid £140 in oct 09, and within weeks had a job ,batroom and kitchen floors and a flagstone courtyard,so it gets my vote:thumbsup:

i think that might have been a lucky one i tried it for a year last year i got a couple of jobs and a small profit but as others have said how many people use yell.com or the pages these days waste of time

99.9% of the people looking at your profile are people wanting to sign you up for more advertising, mobile phones, material and tools

I was on Yell.com for almost one year,Had no genuine calls but on average about 4-5 spam calls per week....As i did not advertise anywhere else just word of mouth it came directly from the yell advert. They also sell your details onto other companies so more spam

I was lucky i complained to the CEO and had my advert and fees cancelled, I asked repeatedly to the CEOs secratary to put details on my numbers asking not to be called.....Yet they still called asking my if i wanted to be on Yell !!! Telling my how fantastic there servce is

For advertsing that works there is only one way

Van fully wrapped in vinyl, Bright and jazzy thats attracts the attention of the public, I have had 20x the investment back in work in less than a year from this
