yellow pages= worth it?

as it says do you think yellow pages is worth the money for adverts? money is tight as im newly self employed.

My opinion is that advertising in the yellow pages is really not worth the amount it costs. When i started i asked all my friends, family and anyone else i seen a question:
"if you wanted a a service such as tiling where would you look to get the service?"
Not a single person said the yellow pages. Mainly consisted of the local paper or the internet.
Think a lot of people do not even keep the yellow pages anymore, to much clutter.

You can advertise on Yell.com for free mate.

getting advert in local free mag.... spoke to local decorator and thats all he has ever used for advertising... been going for years, after a while he said most stuff comes from word of mouth.... i had advert in yellow pages for cleaning i did, when jobs came in most people said they got me from free advert in yell.com!! 167 pound down drain..hope this helps

put the money it would cost to advertise in the y.p into quality business cards and always have some on your person, put one in the hand of every person you speak to, and the other investment is the local paper..Mark.

yell.com never had a call from a potential customer but i think you need to put a fair size add in yellow pages as to stand out from the crowd.Word of mouth best form of advertising imo.

Some of the best work I've had is from the local paper, a simple advert has paid it's way.

ive even had phone calls from ebay. there is a service section on the main page where you can put an advert. advice - put your advert on a buy it now for 1p.

No one will buy your advert but will look at your advert and phone you, i think its listed on there for 25 days and costs about 50p.

I got 2 big jobs before xmas from this. worth a try nothing to lose
