Hi all,
This is a first for me, i have had a recall on a job 2 years after installing it.
I installed a batrhroom for a sound gentlemen ( a tv exec) that was very excat on what he wanted, he wanted the walls tanked(wp1) and knew the corrcet types of fexible adhesive/grout for it etc and also on the floor. He also installed his own plumbing own underfloor heating and correct flooring.
2 years later the walls are still as prefect as the day i left them. BUT..
This is a big but because something here is not right and i can't tell if it is me or him.
I installed 20ish Black Quatz tiles on the green moisture protected flooring grade chip 20mm flooring, with Bal felxible rapid set and grouted with wide joint superflex charcoal. The floor was very very soild. It looked perfect once finshed all the correct drying times were allowed, i even came back to take photos a week later and it was still perfect. I chose bal rapid flex over keraquick as i prefer it.
Two years later i receive a call that the tiles have started lifting i go to visit the job the first thing i noticed is that the grout was almost white in majority of places and the grout had dramaticlly cracked around 10 centre tiles. Around 5 of the tiles you could visually see moving. I took it upon my self there and then to remove the grout and a lift the tile. The flooring under neath was vey wet. The tile was 50% covered with adhesive a further 30% was obviously had been stuck to the tile but had rocked itself free.
He also has underfloor heating under the floor not the matted type.
Also he explained to me that his daughter is a very wet washer?
I expainled to him that even after this time i would offer him free of charge to lift, clean and reinstall the tiles, if he payed for the materials and then paid my labour to re grout the whole floor. If any tiles are damaged in removal he also said he would pay for them. So we are on good terms about it. About 2 1/2 days labour over my weekends as im very busy at the moment.
Now more for my knowledge i need to know what has gone wrong here (you only learn from your mistakes) and how to corect it with different product maybe?
Is it my process?
Could the floor be more flexible than first thought?
Does he have a leak?
Has he super underfloor heating warped the floor?
Has the grout got too wet (if possible)
Now after further research tonight i read a couple of posts about useing a fastflex on grade chip but the quatz is natural stone and is not spec'ed on the fastflex?
I'm honestly not sure how to play this as it could be expensive on my behalf.
Thanks guys,
Adrian
