well i love the Mapei,it all i ever use, is this forum owned by mapei as it seems to be very mapei orientated

When we first started the forum it was very BAL orientated. Each year we've ran a POLL asking members which adhesives they used most during that year. We've slowly seen BAL used less and less, and Mapei used more and more.

Though Mapei sponsored us back when BAL pretty much had 80% of the users using their gear. It's taken a good few years to swing peoples choices Mapei's way.

We still have a lot of BAL users though. And a lot of the lads love Weber too.

Swings and roundabouts.

But as neale says. Keep the threads on topic. This is a mapei thread so expect to see mapei users contributing to it! !!!!!

Its not user friendly at all. All 3 tilers I work with share the same opinion.
I don't understand why you guys rate it so much.
Why do you think it is so good?
There are much more user friendly grouts out there, you just need to try them.

It's wetting up in the bucket because you are not mixing it right..

You have to let it slake in the bucket to allow polymers to activate then you remix.. if you do not do this then it will wet up as you say as the polymers loosen the grout.

All about product knowledge, but if use another brand that works for you then that is great.. ~🙂

I have used Mapei Ultracolour Plus for years with no problems whatsoever, its great stuff, have had to go over to Bal now due to local shop changing supplier and find that is great too, the bonus with the Mapei is that it will (used to?!?) do grout joints from 2-20mm wide I believe, as I say not used it for a couple of years now, but sure that was the case.

I allways use mapei grout and Silicon dont use anything else top stuff on both plus silcone same colour code is grout

before open the bag shake the grout few times it helps colour pikments go around in bag more
plus it needs to mix well other wise colour pikments don,t break properly especially can be seen more 132 beige, when mixing can be seen different colour pikments breaking
if mapei grout has not been mix well dries shaded

Its ok on floors but dislike it on the walls most tends to end on the floor drys to quick on normal ceramic tiles,I tend to stick to BAL.

I've just used it on normal ceramics and was surprised at just how quick it firmed up once it hit the joint, within a minute or two. So I just followed the recommendations above and did small areas and gave it the first wash before moving on - then left it some more before washing off a second time and 'striking' the joints. I then left it to go off before giving it a third (and final) wash off - I found the powdery haze after the last wash a bit of a bugger to polish off though - was this because I left it too long before buffing up? I suppose I had left some of it for over an hour and nearer two.

It seems to get wetter too, despite allowing to slake etc when you get to the last bit in the pot it's a bit sloppy.

Whats the pot life on it? I just mixed enough to do one wall at a time, but was never even close to having it go off in the pot.
