Im begining to think that tie backer board could be the future but up until now ive been a ply man. As you know with ply comes the dreaded 15mm step/change in level which sometimes make the job look odd or customer ask you to use thinner which isnt ideal.
So my queson is who still uses ply or...
Hi All
DIY question on my ongoing small bathroom refurbishment.
I have started removing the existing tiles and they are so well stuck on that they are pulling chunks of plasterboard away, leaving a very uneven surface.
I have decided to take of the whole lot, boards and all and start...

Hi All,
Job count is growing and loving the experience. Latest question is:
When glueing and screwing backer board in preparation for tiling, which adhesive do you use. I guess it has to be flexible and I know that its purpose is to fill any potential voids between the board and existing...

Just reading a post about expansion joints and it got me thinking so I was reading Schluter's info on "Uncoupling Theory"; which raised a couple of questions:
1) How much would a typical tiled floor expand and contract throughout a year
2) When tiling over a timber floor, would backer board or...
Not sure why last post was removed. Basically can I screw elektra tile backer board into a wetroom wall area just as we've done with plasterboard? Ie batons and screwed. Also should I tank? Ta
Hi All,
Having now been convinced of the need to board out my 18msq hall (see "to board or not to board" on a previous thread), I am now wading through trying to decide what to use.
There are quite a few products on the market - currently the most pushed seems to be hardibacker, but whether...
I'm doing out my main bathroom now, and the wall that runs the length of the bath has rendered plasterboard stuck to the blockwork. I was planning on using aquapanel for all of my tile backing boards. , The 2 other walls around the bath are studded, so I was just going to beef up the noggins...

I need to make a bath panel for 270mm x 406mm travertine tiles to sit on and as far as I can gather hardibacker is ideal for the job. My bath measures 1750mm x 750mm but my local stockists only sell sheets of 1200mm x 800mm so it would mean having a joint which i'm not keen on. According to...

Hi all, as you can see I'm new to the forum but a competent DIYer so I hope these are sensible questions. I am removing a bath with a tiled surround and replacing with a walk-in shower from Merlyn. I am building a stud wall to be one wall of the shower. I will be using HardiBacker 500 for the...

I am installing Hardie backer board for my shower cubicle.
I am putting them onto two stud walls. I have already installed it on one wall. This wall runs at a length of about 1.1ish metres wide so I have cut them down and installed them one on top of the other.
The other wall is around 1.6...

I've got four 6mm tile backer boards which I assumed would have been No More Ply but for some reason the tile shop I ordered from sent another brand.
I'm not really bothered about that but what I would like to know is which side I should tile to. The other side will be face down on the floor on...

Is there anybody that would use Ply over a backer board to over lay a floor before tiling when given the choice (not talking about price here)? Im amazed at how many people on here RECOMMEND tiling over ply when asked 'What should i put on the floor before I tile?' We all tile over ply but I see...
Hi again all,
I was just wondering what you guys do when laying elec UFH onto timber floor (floorboards), that has been secured then overboarded with hardibacker.
Do you then lay an additional insaulation board on top.?
Or do you just lay the UFH over the backer board and then tile or...
Hi
Just reading through the professional fixing guide on the BAL website and was wondering if you guys could clear something up for me?
It talks about fibre reinforced cement sheets which i presume are hardi-backer boards and aqua-panel can someone confirm this?
Also it talks about...
I am in the process of doing my bathroom. (Actually I have been since February but that's another story ). I have bought marble floor tiles and the plan was to lay these on a plywood base. The floorboards currently in the bathroom are of the 18mm chipboard variety but unfortunately a...

Not sure if it's just a Northern Ireland thing, but I can honestly say that I've never once encountered any form of backer board as often mentioned on this forum in 7 years of tiling, either in shops or on jobs. Any of the other NI tilers ever used it? If so, where's it usually purchased? Sounds...
hello:hurray:
It has been requested for backer board to be used and fixed around pipework and toilet cistern so that my ceramic tiles may be fitted. Is this advised and the preferred substrate for this?
such as wedi/board, marmox, and so on, can anybody prob( AJAX ) tell me the purpose of the mesh and polimer/cement coating on boath sides of the board please
