I am laying 50m2 of Trav floor and just want to know when to use expansion joints, I know what they do, but what are they actually made up of?
Is a bead of Silicon ok? excuse me for my ignorance but this is the first time I have came up against this. It has all been screeded on top of...
I've been given the go ahead to repair/replace as necessary, some of the tiles around the local leisure centre swimming pool, which will include replacing two rows of tiles and the adjoining expansion joints..
I've had a look at the Schluter website and I like the look of the Dilex MP... do...
Hi, I am presently having a house built with Electric underfloor heating. The floor screed has been pumped/poured and seems to be calcium sulphate type. I have read varying reports as to the requirements for movement/expansion joints in the screed and tiles. The largest area in the house is 36m2...
Hi Guys n Gals
Here is a question that I got asked today and coudn't give a qualified answer to as I just dont know.
When and how big does a floor have to be before installing an expansion joint? :dizzy2:
Was quite stumped with this cos I have never had a floor to that was big enough. I...
I've a largish stone floor to tile that I've mentioned on here before. The largest area being about 10m x 5m. It has UFH and I'm thinking it may well need expansion joints. Although it's a new build there's no way of contacting the architect, so no discussing with him. I think I'll have to write...

Evening all.
Just been to quote for a floor 2nite. Got their and find that a tiler has already started the job but is unable to finish it until January so the customer wants someone else to finish it.
She is basically having all of her downstairs living area tiled. (Dining room, Lounge and hall)...
hi all,im a bit lost as to where and how to install expansion joints, not installed any huge floors as yet but what size of area are we talking about before i start installing expansion joints? is it simply a case of instead of grout going in i would use Silicon instead?cheers:stupid::thumbsup:
Many suspected adhesive failure calls I visit, leave out vital expansion or movement joints where they are required. Where a customers concrete base extension meets the suspended timber floor of the original house, and vast meterage of flooring on top of UFH. There are a few ways in which these...

Hi
Just undertaken my first ever tiling job, in my own home.
I am tiling an en-suite shower, a 'C' chape. The walls are block and have been scratch coated. Got most of the work complete and am happy with it.
I left 2mm gaps between top row of tiles and ceiling, is this correct?
I left 2mm...
Hi Guys
Need a little help. I have a 7m x 7m kitchen floor which is being laid in slate, 600 x 300, on a screeded floor. There is no underfloor heating and I am not sure whether I need an expansion joint. Any advice appreciated.
I am measuring for a large floor area of approx 120ms. The original plans ask for an expansion allowance at the entire perimeter of the floor, also around supporting pillars, and in the main field of tiling, in accordance with codes of practice. The area is 8.5m x 13m, how do I correctly place...

Asked to quote a 40 sq mtr conservatory floor in limestone. Concrete floor, under floor heating but for starters they don't want to put a (latex) self leveller down???
They want the tiles laying in brickbond (over the 10 mtr length) which in my mind rules out an expansion joint. As I have never...
Just a quick thought. I've just finished laying 20m2 of 30 by 60 porcelain floor tiles in a herringbone pattern.
The room was just about the right size to avoid having to use expansion joints, but if you had to put them in how would you go about it?
:huh2:
Anyone know the correct spec for expansion in regards what material to use. Bearing in mind the pool promenades are is washed down each night . I am having to write a letter to a builder which needs to state that the wrong type has been used (normal sanitary sealant).
Thanks

Hi All
You are probably all in bed, I'm still up trying to sort out the bits and pieces that need doing in a new extension.
As per previous thread I have a 3.5 deep new extension( 6 week old screed) which leads out from a 3.5 deep existing build ( concrete floor). Where the back of the old...
I am laying UFH onto a plywood subfloor and using Arditex smoothing compound over the top. I have already tiled the walls and left approx 6mm between wall & plywood floor I am going to lay the floor tiles/smoothing compound up to the wall tiles do I need to install some kind of expansion joint...
Ok i don't care anymore how silly i look because i need help. All the jobs i have done so far (in my short career) have not required an expansion joint but a floor job i have next week does.
I understand what an expansion joint is for but have no idea how to insert one and what it should look...
