Ok so we know tile weight limits on plaster is 20kg per sqm... or is it????
I've had a 'conversation' with someone about weight limits on plaster which made me look up data sheets to back me up. What i've found has left me unsure.
The formula i've worked to is
Tile + Adhesive should be = or...
I will be tiling my bathrooms walls soon.
I have two walls that are stud walls and I have used Hardiebacker board for these. The other two walls are breezeblock with what looks like a plaster skim over the top.
I have bought travertine tiles which are around 10-12mm thick (I am not at...
Hello good people, i have a job coming up soon which involves tiling onto polished plaster using limestone mosaic on 30x30 sheets. I was going to use mosaic fix, will i need to give the walls a sanding first do you think or use another adhesive?
Many thanks, Jamie.

my question is do i need to prime the plaster before tiling onto it or can i just...
Hi All
I have decided to tackle my bathroom as my first tiling project and am in need of some help.
I have started taking off the old tiles and the top coat of plaster is coming off with them in most places. I know from what I have read on this forum that there are some plaster base coats that...
The substrate around the bath and ppower shower area is lathe and plaster which has been painted with waterproof paint apparently . There are also 2x 100 mm tile around the bath .
I knocked the wall in various places to test for solidity and it seems very sound .
I have also recommended tanking...
I had a plasterer come in to plaster a wall today. the wall varied from 'down to brickwork (Looked damp if I'm honest) to new plasterboard. my plasterer said that a handful of cement speeds up the drying time of (bonding) plaster!! Anyway, first coat of about 10/12mm didn't look as if it was...
I’m working on a bathroom refit (which I have really underpriced!). I’ve taken some tiles off one of the walls and all the plaster (which was not very thick) came away too. I’m now down to the very sandy plaster. My question is can I just prime this wall or will I have to skim it. The walls are...
Morning all.
Thanks for all the help in previous posts.
I've now sanded all my bathroom walls using a belt sander on P40. Needless to say the missus wasn't best pleased with the dust...It gets everywhere even with the door closed and polythene sheet taped to the door frame!..Glad i wore a...
Can anyone advise the required time it takes to cure a repaired wall before tiling.
I have had to repair a wall with bonding and a plaster skim before tiling in a shower cubicle. The bonding is about 15mm and the skim 2mm.
What timescale should i leave it?
Thanks
Hi, Just been to look at a job and the previous tiles have been removed. As would be expected the plaster skim has come off on most of the walls. The base coat is not a bonding coat but sand and cement. When rubbed the surface is quite loose IE. the sand rubs off. I will be using a cement based...
Hi
New to this, doing a bathroom refurbishment (not tiled before) I am removing a bath and replacing with a shower enclosure. I have noticed that the wall underneath the bath (original outside wall of house) is bare breeze block - what do I need to put on this to enable me to tile onto it...
Im to lay marble mosaics onto 2 skimmed walls inside a shower cubicle but there has been a mention of the weight issue on plaster skim and so was wondering would screwing thin say 6mm cement or hardi board into the studs on top of the plasterboard be a better option? Only ask because the owner...
I need recommendations for products and methods of removing paint and general crud from my hall. I haven't started yet because the tiles are a reddy brown mottle effect with an inserted black grecian edging. I don't want to spoil them if possible. When clean I'd like to seal them. Thanks and...
Hi there
6 months ago we had beautiful green slate floor tiles laid in our kitchen. A couple of weeks ago a decorator came round to re decorate the kitchen and he sanded down the walls and ceiling. Everyone (decorator, tiler, tile shop) all said the dust would come off the floor but it hasn't...

Hi,
I've read a lot of posts on here quoting the fixing weights of 32Kg/m^2 for plasterboard and 20Kg/m^2 for plaster detailed further here: http://www.baladhsives.co.uk/newpdfs/literature/sitework_guidance.pdf.
The bathroom I'm tiling has two external and two internal walls (external walls...
