I'm about to start retiling my bathroom and have bought a Mapei tanking kit from screwfix.
The bath is decent quality Ideal Standard IFP+. Its has wall mounts for the corner and sides + legs and supports.
Is this the correct order..
1. tank the walls to below the level of the bath
2. fit the...
I am tiling a shower enclosure. Having read advice about tanking the walls before tiling I just don't understand the logic. The tanking is presumably to prevent water getting through the grouting and the adhesive and into the wall. Having tanked the wall and water has penetrated through the...
Hi everyone, I'm a DIYer with a week's training how to tile. I am about to tile my shower. I plan to use a tanking kit first such as the MAPEI one. My question however is, would the trowel scratch the surface of the cured membrane, causing a breach and negating any waterproofing done?
Hello,
I’m doing a DIY bathroom job and would be very grateful for some advice.
The bathroom is in a 2nd floor flat in a converted Victorian house. The bathroom walls for the corner into which the bathtub and shower will sit appear to be dry walls with wool insulation, foil backed...
Sorry if this has been asked before. I am trying to find out if my bathroom was tanked properly. Having taken down the tiles and drywall back to the stud, should I have seen evidence that it had been applied? + I didn't rip up any tape from the shower pan plasterboard that was put up. So I am...
The rationale behind the rapid setting mortar is to speed up the work. At the same time, a tanking system essentially traps any moisture inside. It seems to me that tanking shortly after the mortar sets (in, say, one or two hours) is a leap of faith. What do you think?
I have some damaged plasterboard in a bathroom that needs repairing prior to being tiled. I have decided not to replace the plasterboard (due to the wall being Paramount partition board) and I don't plan to overboard it either (due to the bathroom being very tight on space). Photos are attached...
Good evening,
I’m hoping someone can assist with a question I have regarding tanking over Wedi board.
I’m currently renovating my bathroom and turning it into a wet room. I’ve laid an Impey Aqua Dec-4 former and for the immediate shower area walls I’ve removed the old plasterboard and replaced...
What's your tiling question? Pictures can be
Hi
I'm about to start a wetroom next week. I'll be using warmup dcm pro for the first time and I'm a little confused how I go about tanking it around the tray. I know there is a self adhesive waterproof tape available for it but I can't get my...
Hi all, 13 years ago I placed cement boards in the shower area on an old style shower tray. I have just removed all tiles and the cement boards with the 'rubberised' tanking has held up well - (more than I can say for the plasterboarded walls elsewhere in the bathroom. I intend to put a...
Hi,
Apologies, this is quite a long question... I am currently renovating my bathroom and soon to embark on tiling the walls with ceramic metro tiles.
When removing the old tiles, some of the plaster / skim underneath came off in patches to reveal a mixture of bare concrete and flaking...
Hi All,
Already received from good advice from this site.
Having brand new shower installed over existing fitted bath, will be quite a powerful, pumped shower.
Previously the walls all around the bathroom were half tiled from the floor and then painted upwards to ceiling with what appears to be...
Hi,
Absolute newby here in terms of tiling.
Having been doing lots of research and I think I`m making progress however the more I research, the more conflicting opinions I come across.
Having a new shower installed over a bath, will be quite a powerful shower.
I have removed the existing tiles...
Hi long time reader first time posting. I know hardiebacker does not need to be primed normally but when tanking a shower areas with the Mapei kit do I prime the boards or not?
Thanks
Hi everyone,
Completely new to this forum but saw some excellent advice being given out so thought I'd give it a try.
I'm looking at installing 2 wetrooms and I'm looking for 2 complete kits to be shipped to Spain.
I've had my eye on a few different kits.
Aquaseal (Sika) with pre formed...
Hi,
I'm in a process of prepping before retiling my bathroom. I've stripped the old tiles with adhesive down to some old plaster (I think it is an old sand and cement coat). I've also installed the STS tile backing boards on the other wall where the new bath with a shower will go. See the...

Hi
I’m having a wetroom refurbishment.
Tough-x Wetroom former fitted its self supporting GRP.
Anyway fitter is putting wedi boards on the walls and is going to tank them, I asked if he was tanking the tray as well to which he replied it doesn’t need it because it’s waterproof.
I think it’s...
Having trouble deciding how to move forward with my live-aboard narrowboat bathroom....I want to construct a shower to take up about half the space of the little room in the picture (there will be a third wall by then also walls will be primed and actually attached and the fire alarm removed) -...
Hi,
I'm new to the forum (and tiling / bathrooms) and appreciate the many threads that I have been learning from. If anyone had a moment to comment on the tanking and drain plan for my new attic wetroom I would be very grateful. I'm doing all the work myself, learning as I go. I'm most...
