So I'm about to box in some pipes and tile over them - I understand that tiling directly onto ply is bad obvs - just wondered if it's advisable to box in with ply and then overboard with tile backer board or do most tilers just go with board directly?
I have a fairly small bathroom 2m x 2.2m which will be tiled wall to floor all round. The straight bath will be fitted onto the 2m wall so I will need a tile backing board.
I will be going for porcelain tiles - not sure on the weight but size wise will be 600 x 300.
The bathroom is back to...
Initially planned on a mortar bed for my underlayment. Quickly realized I should've gone with backer board instead. I already installed roofing felt and metal lath. Is it ok to install the cement board on top or should I rip out the paper/lath? Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I'm tiling my bathroom that has plywood boards on the floor. Apparently you are supposed to put backer board first, I got HARDIEBACKER 6mm. It's my first time tiling with them (and 3rd in total) so I don't know how tight they have to be around walls, pipes, toilet etc? Can you fill gaps...
When removing tiles around a shower area, some of the outer paper layer came off the plasterboard where water had seeped in over the years (see picture). Now I'm looking at my options to prepare the wall for tiles and want to know what would be recommended while keeping costs down?
Option 1...
I wish to tile over good solid floorboards on a suspended floor, and a small bathroom. I believe I should use 6mm cement boards prior to tiling.
What backer boards should I use? I see Hardiebacker is probably the leading brand but I’m not in the trade so I’m looking at £15 a board. Have found...
Hi,
I'm refurbishing my bathroom and looking to install underfloor heating under tiles for the floor. I have removed the old subfloor and planned to install 18mm plywood then 6mm jackoboard then Ditra Heat Duo mat with the loose lay cable before tiling. I have purchased all the materials but...
Hello experts!
The walls of my bathroom were extremely uneven and out of plumb, I've now lined them with wedi style foam backer board (abacus elements board). It has worked well for 90% of the room, walls are now mostly flat and level. Though, there are a few areas where I have still ended up...

I've just started the process of removing the old tiles from my new build house, and it looks like they've used GLASROC Tile Backer Board as the base.
As expected, whilst removing the tiles, it's taken off the yellow layer long with it. Do I need to replace the whole board with a new one? Or...

Hi everyone
I've a few refurbishment projects upcoming that will include floor and wall tiling and as it's not something I do very often I thought I'd register here to fill the gaps in my knowledge. So hello.
I was initially hoping for some help with choice of adhesive. Old black mortar has...
Hi,
I am building a new bathroom in my own house. The room is on the first floor in a newly built extension. There is no floor yet, just joists. I plan to have a tiled floor with electric underfloor heating. We haven’t chosen tiles yet but will probably go for large format floor tiles.
The...
Have a job where walls are clad with osb ( trendy). Customer wants walls partially tiled around all the worktops with larger splashbacks behind cookers and sink etc. As the walls will be partially tiled you will be able to see the top edge and side edges. I am using Hardie backer 6mm on the osb...
I've had to take up half of my floor tiles including the 9mm ply that was underneath. I'm wanting to replace it but am thinking about using a cement board/no more ply option instead. Would a 10mm option work if I used slightly less adhesive? Any help is appreciated.
Planning to install brick imitation porcelian tiles 250x250 size in dinning room, decided to go with studs on brick wall ( 20.5mmx 45mm,because need to cover some pipe work) and will cover with Marmox 12.5 . There is very light official manual, so please, could some one explain me a bit more in...
Please help - I put down plywood and tanked it with a Mapi tanking kit, I painted the liquid all over the floor. We then decided we'd put down a heat mat so we need to put down Marmox insulation tiles. I have the insulation all cut out and have started to screw it down - the screws (with large...
I have just found this on the US Hardie site, apologies if it’s already common knowledge.
Not sure if it will be coming here, but would be something I would consider using.
