My bathroom is now finally ready for tiling!

The wall tiles are 230 x 400mm ceramic and the floor tiles are 300 x 300 ceramic.

There are a variety of surfaces and I have had the following recommendations for adhesives etc:

Walls which I've stripped back to bare plaster because they were painted with emulsion or had old tile adhesive on them. Prime with Mapei Primer G then use Mapei Keraflex Maxi

Boxing made of 9mm ply screwd to framework at 200mm centres. Mapei Keraflex Maxi.

Boxing in the shower area made of aquapanel screwed at 300mm centres. Tank with Mapegum WPS followed by Keraflex Maxi

Flooring is 18mm chipboard overlayed with 12mm ply screwed at 150mm centres. Consider tanking with Mapegum WPS Mapei Keraquick with Latex plus addative.

Does this all sound ok?

What size trowel shall I use for the floor and walls?

Cheers for the replies guys :D

So if I use a trowel with 10mm x 10mm notches with a 10mm spacing for the floor and wall then I wont go far wrong?

How much of the previous tile residue do I need to remove? At the moment its stripped back but you can see some areas have a smidge of the previous adhesive left. I'd say its around 0.5mm thick or so? Worth stripping that off too?

I'd strip it off where you can. Consider using a decent trowel for the walls as those tiles are not small. You want 100% adhesive coverage throughout, meaning when you check the coverage as you're fixing them the adhesive should fully cover the back of the tile.... leaving no air pockets. (I think 80 - 100% is british standard for wet areas but I'd still go for 100 due to the tile size)

Hi what I meant was the trowel should have a notch that is 10mm wide and 10mm deep then a gap of 10mm then another notch 10mm wide and 10mm deep. I'm sure I saw a trowel somewhere that had 10mm wide and 10mm deep notches but only a 6mm gap between them.

Well I wandered round to the local topps at lunch time to buy a trowel and the woman sold me a "Professional Thick Bed Trowel". It says "13mm round notch for thick bed adhesive" Is this the correct one or does it need to go back? They didnt seem to have anything else in stock other than 6mm x 6mm square notch trowels!

Considering the walls are completely flat it seems like I'm going to be using a hell of a lot of adhesive!
