hi i am taking on my 1st job next wk very nervous i think i have overpriced what do you guys think?the job as follows
1 = quarry tile onto concrete floor with 6"x6" ruabon reds total 12 sqmts
2 =tile kitchen walls brick effect 4"x8" ceramic bevelled in brick wall pattern 5sqmts
3 = tile bathroom over texixting tiles 4"x8" ceramic bevelled in brick wall pattern 10sq mts the priceoes not include the tiles but i have included adhesive etc
get ready total price quoted =830 pounds any feedback much appreciated cheers joe

I don't think it's over the top at all really.

What will the mats set you back out of that.

It only works out £30.74 per sq meter including materials, so I wouldn't say that was mind blowingly expensive or anything.

I actually think it is a bit underpriced in all honesty. Heavilly bevelled tiles in brick bond will take some time and needs to be done with a bit of care. Quarries are also not straight forward as the sizes can vary a bit and they are also small tiles for a floor.

Just my opinion and others may disagree. I think you will be working very hard for your money.

I actually had a figure of 900 in my head....so sounds good, none of the tiling you are doing is base level so you should charge for the work you are doing. Quarrys, brickbond, bevelled tiles, tile over tile. A good first job to get your teeth in to. Take your time and measure everything two or three times and if you get stuck the guys on here will help.
Good luck mate!

I'm doing a full bathroom in those brick tiles, its taking me ages.I,ve definately under priced the job, just gave a normal ceramic sqm rate and forgot that I'm actually laying over a thousand tiles on crappy walls.I now have to work saturday and sunday to get the job finished and it almost feels like I'm working them for free:furious3:
She is very happy with the job though so theres alot more work from this customer in the future, pricing will be different next time.

That was my point exactly when I responded to his question earlier I am glad at least one person agrees with me. I still think he will be working very hard for his £830. His floor alone has 600 tiles, quarries at that, which will need to be wet cut really to get a nice finish.

This pricing game is an odd one. In fact I posted last week with what I had quoted for a 11m kitchen floor and a 3m bathroom floor. 396 inc materials. Not one person thought I had overpriced yet from the reaction of the customer they obviously thought I had and didn't get the job.
Has anybody used the line that you will try and beat a more competitive quote if you can or is it not a done thing ?

I am of the impression that certain mambers of the public have no idea what is involved in doing a good tiling job. Your price you quoted seemed absolutely fine to me. if the customer feels they can get a job they are satisfied with then that is their perogative. Don't waste time worrying about it, move on to the next estimate. Stick to your policy of pricing, charge what you think you are worth. if you never get any jobs then maybe something is wrong, but at your cost given above, i don't think so.

The main point of the post wasn't an issue with the quote but if anyone offers to beat a more competitive quote.

I didn't actually notice the size of the tiles in the post, and yes, that's a lot of tiles.
If I had quite a bit of work on then I don't think I would take on this job for that amount really thinking about it.

As grumpy said, it's a lot of tiles for even just the floor.
