Another Pricing Head Scratcher

Hi all,
I recently had a request to give a quotation come through the post. The pack which i received contained a very detailed description ( 64 pages) of the work to be carried out . Now in a nut shell it's to supply all adhesive , tiles and trim and to fix 2848 m2 in four tower blocks.

The tiles are standard 150 x 150 whites.

Im wondering what is a competitive metre rate (labour only) to take on such a big job?

How much profit can be made on materials?

Bearing in mind all the tiles will have to be taken up the blocks and the residents are still living in them. So will have to clean up properly .

in my experience it depends how badly you want the job council remods are a nightmare but work is work £30 a metre is about the norm for contracts inc adhesive and grout and tiles at cost. good luck

20 p/c mark up on all materials and inclose a notes section regarding the various options regarding price. I have no idea of the obsructions/obsticals that could arise IFyou won this contract. But you should cover yourself with various pricing options regarding site conditions. Go in well over the top with the quote but keep verbal contact with the QS all the time and i am sure you will be told if you are expensive. You won't be told you are too cheap yeh.. Just remember to keep verbal contact.

I quoted last year for a project similar supplying tiles and materials but cos i was not VAT registered it was a non starter. cost of tiles and mat made up a huge chunk but the contractor couldnt claim back the VAT element which I would hav paid when purchasing

If your not already this job alone would make you liable for VAT registration according to what I understand.
Worth bearing in mind as you cant play with the VAT man.#
