BUT if thst the case..why Ultra solv....:lol::lol::lol:

Because Ultra Solv is designed to penetrate tiles with extremely high surface tension but even so it still kinder than any other solvent based sealer and if you wait a while there is a new Aqua Mix Sealer coming which is water based and is designed to penetrate even quicker than Ultra Solv! Go on try it you know you want to:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I may not be experianced as some of you guys, explain about the tension surface of a tile and the tile it relates

OK here goes! There are tiles that need to be sealed and tiles that don't this is determined by doing a test in the normal way such as a simple water test, felt pen or oil or whatever way suits you. Esssentially the tighter the surface tension of a tile the more difficult it is to get a sealer to penetrate. So if for example we take something simple like a carrara marble tile that is just honed for example it will be relatively easy to get a penetrating sealer in. If however the tile is highly polished then the surface tension is a lot tighter because of the polished finish so therefore it is more difficult to get the sealer to penetrate because it has to get through the polished surface first. Which means that the sealer will require a longer dwell time on the tile to penetrate. Now we come to the sealer. Each sealer has to have a carrier(transport system) so that it can penetrate into the stone. In most cases with Aqua Mix for example this transporter is water which evaporates once the sealer has penetrated but in the majority of other sealers the transporter (the carrier) is a solvent hence the smell when applying most sealers. I will say at this stage all other sealer manufacturers are working hard to follow Aqua Mix and use water as the transport system. In the case of Aqua Mix all but two of their penetrating sealers are water based. The exceptions being Ultra Solv which by it's name tells you it is solvent based and is designed to penetrate easier because solvent penetrates easier than water but still Ultra Solv is a lot less pungent than any other solvent based sealer. The other exception is Aqua Mix Enrich 'N' Seal which has no carrier the sealer itself is its own transport system which is unique in penetrating sealers. I hope this has explained things a little better for you.

Cheers Tel...saved me a typing job.....

I have read a lot into aqua mix stuff this past week or so....good products i agree...but how do they justify the price...???

Enrich and seal...wow..bank loan or wot......

I agree, other sealers makes are following in the water based sealers markey..Lithofin has and LTP are changing i have heard....

Health and safety plays a part in this as well i think...some sealers are very pungent..stain stop being one....

I have been using LTP sealers quite a lot lately and they are no where near as strong a smell as lithofin solvent based.

So i am all for these water based sealers...kind to us and the enviroment and it's the future of sealers.

More sealer and less solvent makes a better product....i know thats why enrich and seal is so pricey, as it's purely sealer apart from the additive to stop it hardening in the bottle.
