So who is tiling , a builder or a tiler
A tiler. The builder only did the stud work and boarded
if your paying fillet stake price for your fitting its a bit on the beef burger side .
BUT if your paying beef burger price and your expecting a fillet steak youve got what you paid for.
I don’t think I penny pinched on this job. I got a few quotes and took the middle one. I would be interested what some would price this room at

Criticising others work is the easiest thing in the world to do.
There is sufficient skill and knowledge amongst our members to pull almost any work to pieces.
Ultimately, as the client you have every right to raise your concerns with either the contractor or tiler, they are not without merit, there could be improvements.
The fact that the tiler said that Aquapanel doesn’t need tanking shows at the very least poor product knowledge, as above, Aquapanel is not waterproof.
Also to conform to the latest BS5385 regulations, all new wet areas are to be tanked.
So he isn’t up to date with the latest guidelines set out by British Standards either.
However, you are obliged to offer the contractor or tiler every opportunity to rectify any concerns that you have.
Ultimately it will come down to what you, as a client, are prepared to accept.
On the whole, with some minor mistakes rectified and finished to a good standard with grout and Silicon, it’ll be acceptable and within BS.
My next course of action would be sit and talk to them having all your concerns listed out on paper with you.
Listen to any explanation offered, and hopefully come to an agreement that all parties are happy with.
If that doesn’t work, then throw your toys out! :tearsofjoy:

Just an update. The tiler has said he doesn’t feel he has the skill to give 100% on this job. He has decided to walk.

I have already got a second opinion and they have said it needs to be ripped out and started again. One because of the tanking issues and two because it’s not level and uneven.

Would it be easy to get the tiles of this aquapanel cement board? Only concern of mine is the ceiling as it was lowered after this wall was built?

I wouldn’t think so, whenever I have removed tiles from aquapanel in the past it destroys it.

Neither tile or board will be reusable.

There looks enough skill in this picture to see that he’s set it out correctly!
Some times it’s just easier to be polite and leave.
Good luck to the next contractor.
He did some good tiling in places. Unfortunately on this same wall he used a 10mm trim on 10.3mm tiles. The next contractor is the one who is saying it’s not set out correctly.

Why wouldn't you use them as spacers? Less issues than leaving them in the joint, it allows for sizey tiles, they are easily removed and the grout joint is 100% free of spacer.
