BAL or Mapei?

Superflex has efflorescence issues so i hear but ultra colour is efflorescence free. .. just a tip from me..

Not a fair comparison, mate.
Microcolour from BAL is fast setting and efflorescence free too.

Nope.
Cost the same as Ultracolor from my Glasgow stockist - few pence between them.
only more expensive when you go for green or red, but how often have you ever used those?

I used to use for BAL for over 10 years.. I now use Mapei.. IMO a better product,, after all , i too am entitled to my opinion..

Just a quick question on mapei grout, I don't use it very often as there are no stockists near me. When I have used it I found it goes off to quick, is there a slow and fast setting version?

Ultra is the fast set then you can use SF or FF but these are for narrower joints..

Its the ultra colour I've used. Think the best thing to do is get my backside down to a tile giant and fill the van up and try some new stuff! I love trying new stuff, its like christmas! Maybe thats what I'll ask for this year! Thanks for the help I'll let you know what I think

No probs.. I like ultra colour because it sets this fast.. makes the clean up quicker and flusher joints..

I use BAL grouts 99% of the time as thats all thats available for about 30 miles. Used to being able to put alot on before washing down. Nearly got caught out! Maybe this is an advert for reading the instructions!

Brian, carry some white scotch pads... much easier for fast setting grouts.. i stopped using BAL's normal super flex grouts due to some colour issues i suffered.. micro colour grouts are good but not as fast setting as Ultra ones..

It is a case of use what your are happy and comfortable with..

Couldn't agree more, its just a case of not having mapei available to me. There's no doubt that the BAL range is top quality but the prices are getting silly now, and with the vat increase on the way its only going to get worse. There are alot of people who rate the mapei range very highly on here so I feel like I'm missing out!!!
