bath pannel

Hi guys hoping someone can help me.
i need to construct a bath pannel to be tiled(just normal square bath) just wondering what everyone thinks best materials and maybe a method of how best to do it. i was thinking of using plasterboard on some sort of a frame.
but is there a quicker better method?
any info greatly appreciated.

Plaster board is fine in most cases.. keep it shy of the walls/bath and floor to prevent ingression and seal to finish the tiling.... some like access panels but spare tiles can help prevent that imo.. all personal choice.

I constructed a bath panel last week using hardibacker onto framework leaving access for taps. On the pics they show before and after grouting and I am going to be using Silicon down access panel for easy removal if required

And how unsightly do those screw fixings look.. not saying it is wrong.. but i prefer the nice clean look.. but as i said , down to choice with each customer.

Yeah I know what your saying Dave but I would always rather gain access just incase there is ever a problem in the future. I'm not saying I would do that in my bathroom but just an example

IF you have to do an access panel.. then use magnetic fixings and Silicon the joint same colour as the grout.. then you just slice the joint to open up.. 🙂

Yeah I'll have to look into those magnetic fixings Dave!! Never used them before and would look alot better than those unsightly screws as you call them :smilewinkgrin:

i can see how your frame was constructed on this side of the bath. how do you support and fix on the other corner of the bath. hope you get what i mean.

All constructed from 4x2". Fixed to the wall both sides and fixed to the floor. I have vertical 4x2 pieces where the access panel is and another middle-ish and both ends. When fixing make sure it is back far enough to leave enough room for plaster/cement boards so the tile will either run up under the lip of the bath or sit flush. I made mine so it was flush

This is constructed in a way that i tile the side of the pannel and tile the top of the panel with a tile trim. This panel is then placed in position, Tiled and grouted then I just Silicon the edges around to hold the panel in place. If you ever need access to under the bath, then you just cut the Silicon all round the panel and remove the whole thing. No unsightly mechanical fixings.
I have to do the same for a curved bath panel. Thats something I have to construct for my next job. If anyone has done one before, then please share your experience.

can i ask why panel needs to be removable

I'd rather use Kerdiboard than plasterboard. Not water-sensitive and SO easy to work with.

If at any time there is a problem with the plumbing, there is easy access.

That s a bit different to down here only do the panels if there's a spa pump involved . most plumbing is encased in the stud or brick walls.cant be a lot of faith in plumbers over there

Come to think of it haven't done one for ages most plumbers put pump in the vanity cupboard or run it outside for easy access

Looking at other posts on curved walls. I will use curved marmox board (with adhesive on the back) screwed on to 2"X1" supports fixed vertically around the curved bath. I will leave this panel fixed and tile with white mosaic tiles and blue mosaic tile skirting. If you more experienced tilers have a better suggestion, then please share.
I want it to look good and have a lasting impression. Some of the pictures I have seen on here are very impressive.
