I have not been on here for a long while down to a few reasons but mainly this one.

I have had very little work in due to being undercut mainly by a fireman who tiles on his days off but also by a few new tilers who are doing prices so cheap I cannot compete.

I have tried a thousand different methods to get work all to no avail, even getting recommendation has not been fruitful and ive had a few.

So ive come to the sad realisation I have to do something else, unfortunatly the only thing I know is IT and the print industry and so ive been working in cornwall and Derbyshire on various IT - colour management projects. This is what I did before but wanted to stop the travelling.

I now will be advertising all my gear on here including NEW RUBI wet cutter. Watch this space.

Many thanks for all the help I was given on here I truly appreciated it , Especially Timeless john who gave up a lot of his own personal time and effort to come to clients with me and offer a great deal of help. I will always be grateful ..

Ken

im sorry your packing up tiling ken, a lot of us going through the mill and suffering the same thing from undercutters

are you sure you should be selling your kit right now

Sorry to hear you are packing up, it has been a hard year for new tilers and i dont think it will be any better this year. Good luck and you are always welcome to come and chat on here.

It's a sad indictment of the way things are going for some guys.

I wish you all the luck for the future mags and hope the choice you make is the right one, good luck:thumbsup:

Sorry to hear this Ken,you should do your IT then undercut these others in your spare time:smilewinkgrin:

Hi ken..

Sorry to hear your news.. But you have to earn a living doing something as you say... so you look after yourself and maybe keep the tools incase you decide to return to the tiling trade..

Good on John for helping out Ken too,at least you have the IT work to fall back on Ken.
Head up:thumbsup:

Sorry to hear this but good luck for the future. I agree with the others here, I'd hold on to your tools for a bit unless finances dictate otherwise.

All the best

Well Ken - that's come as a bit of a downer!
As I hadn't heard from you for a bit I thought you were busy!
I enjoyed our visits and hoped that it may have helped, but I understand your situation and you are obviously making the right decision just now.
Remember your training at NETT and realise you still have a skill to offer clients.
I'll make you an offer for your tools via PM on condition you come and use them when you get a few small jobs in.
I know how committed you were to tiling and its just tough for new start ups at the present time - but many hobbies can be made into careers - so continue as a hobby and let it roll!
Oh sorry got to go - the alarms just gone off - I bet its another chip pan fire!!!!

ken i sat next to you at the mapei day, and I though you were a great guy!! we missed you on here to mate, dont sell your tools!! unless you have to mate, when it picks up you can start to follow your dream again, good luck to you and your family mate!!, why not stay on the forum we like your banter mate!! all the best DAVE :8:

It's always sad to hear this, best of luck bud. twice this year i have been asked to under cut tilers, but i just knock the job back. Because im still tiling part time, i won't under cut a full time tiler, im not relying on my tilng to pay my mortgage. YET!!!

As everyone has already said....It's a real shame Ken. Unless you really have to, I would not sell your tools.

Try and keep your hand in with part time work until you can find a way to make it your full-time career mate.

Sorry to hear this Ken, as Dave says you must do what ever to give you an income. If you dont need to sel your tools i would hang on to them for a while. When it all gets better then you have something else to fall back on.
All the best

best of luck mags
you've give it a good go and you can always say that!! you wont forget what you have learned and maybe one day in the future when things are where you want them to be, you can return a wiser and better tiler for your experience if thats what you choose to do  and also, dont look back now mate, its the past, its the future that matters now....

best of luck
ed

sad news mags don't give up all together just change to suit the times and take timless up on his offer for your tools you never know whats around the corner keep in contact with the forum and take care

sorry to hear that mags, dont sell tools though, always think what it would cost you to replace and you never know whats round the corner.

Sorry to hear this Ken, keep your chin up. Hope things work out for you:thumbsup:

Tough days - must be frustrating losing out work on relatively new competition. Hang onto the tools, you'll still get bits of tiling which you can fit round your new job for a few extra pennies.

I agree with all the others. Keep your tools. You are now in a better position than the competition so you can compete more easily.
Don't give up.

Sorry to hear this Ken mate:thumbsdown:

PLEASE don't sell your tools - it's a tough time at the minute for most, never mind new starters, but where there is famine, a feast generally follows - so you do what you've got to to put food on the table but in the knowledge that the sun will shine again some day and you'll be prepared to get a tan:lol:

All the best mate , if its any consolation the undercutting is everywhere and its good tilers like yourself that can suffer, good luck whatever you do..

all the best mags!
it's a shame you have to give up something you enjoy dearly but hopefully things will pick up and one day you can get back into the tiling!
chin up:thumbsup:

Sorry to hear that mags, all the best with your new job, deffo keep your tools and keep your hand in part time until things get back to normal. Things are picking up, around my area at least.

Sorry to hear the news Ken maybe you can become a parttime fireman sounds like john needs one right now, anyway keep your tools, work part time, good luck with whatever you decide mate............Alby

never give up,just put it on hold for a bit, never sell ur tools if u can avoid it,as we all know what happens when youve no tools:thumbsup:

Bummer Mags,But listen to the majority here, keep your tools for those small weekend jobs, the tools will pay for themselves, you'll get better and more confident, you can then tile city hall and the firehall and with your cash fire all the firemen, restaff the firehall with part-time tilesetters then Bob's your uncle,eh?good luck, keep the tools,Mike:thumbsup:

P.S.hey Dave, why don't we have a poll on wether Mags keeps the tools or not,Put me down for keep

KEEP SELL
