Bikers, your advice please...

Im looking to buy a Yamaha YZF 600 thundercat prob around the yr 2000 mark. Any good or bad views on these please?

I am in the process of doing my DAS and this will be my first bike so dont want anything to stupid (R6) but I want a nice toy and at 6ft 2" it needs to be a fairly good size. Any advice from the experts would be great

Decent allrounder to compete with the likes of the CBR600 s. You should be able to get one for about a grand depending on condition. I would look at corrosion on yamaha brake calipers and maybe budget to replace rear shock as the original will be passed its best and it was quite soft in its day.

Owned one for six years. Depends what your looking for in a bike to be honest. I bought from new and got it because everyone else had a CBR! Nice and roomy plenty of weather protection and a good pillion seat. Carbs can ice when its cold. Toured France on it and had no problems.

If however your looking for a focused sports bike then look elsewhere! I suspect the CBR is better in this respect for example, and an R6 definatly will be!

Thank you gents. I would agree that the CBR is a better bike but seems to be harder to find one in my price range and I can forget about the R6 money wise. Only going to have a grand to spend and the CBRs for that price seem to be a bit battered wherer as the Tcats seem pretty tidy.

The bonus you will get with something like the Thundercat is that it was and still is an unwanted bike. Never the same success as rivals so that gives you good buying power.

Fazer is more of a 'sit up bike', shares the same engine as the T'cat.
