I agree with impish, for floors, Hardie and the like are great, but I wouldn’t use it on any wall, especially a wet area.
If the customer is wanting a top end room from the bones to the finishing touches then don’t disappoint, give them schluter. In most cases tho, any of the more affordable coated foam boards will do just fine.
 
I have a question. We have seven bathrooms all boarded and skimmed. We have channel drains and 20mm to play with around them. Can we overboard with 6mm and use tile adhesive to take out some of the 10/15mm dips in the boards. Obviously they will be mechanically fixed as well ? The tiles are 6mm thick.
