I really did live on a bed of gravel in a wooden grit bin in Munich for whole winter of 1984.
lived off schmalz(lard sandwiches) handed out at the catholic hospice and dressed in old second hand lederhosen and overcoats donated to charities.
oh the good old days!

Those were the days Dave when we were on nights. I used to go to the cinema watch two films, get a bag of popcorn, 3 stone of monkey nuts, and still have change from a groat. TJ must remember those days:lol:

Well I've just become a single parent!..my son was thrown out of his mums due to his manners and laziness....he's 15 and hates school...his handwriting is that of a 6 yr old and when asked what 26-13 was he said I don't know I will have to work it out on my hands...I never knew he was so bad at school...when asked what he would like to do when he leaves school he said anything that don't involve writing..I'm embarrassed but also furious, I have to take some of blame but at 15 it's just to late...as a dad that works 6 days a week and long hours I expected mum to keep on top of him..I have a tremendous amount of guilt now.. he stays in his room playing computor games all day and night...he has no common sense and I have to tell him everyday to put stuff in dishwasher and not on sides, laundry in basket..it still does not register...I really am at a loss as to what to do with him..he has no interest but I now turn wifi off at 11..I feel awful as a dad not being able to oversee more of what was going on at his mums but wtf it's to late...I really worry now for next year when he leaves..patents are to bland but also the schools for not helping out kids of lesser academic abilities..schools seem to have lost the discipline that kids need to gain respect...videos games...worst thing invented!

Don't know if I was told this story or read it in a lads mag, but apparently true, gaffer said to his apprentice pop to the shop and get me a pack of benson and hedges and if they haven't got those just get me something else, apprentice came back and said no benson and hedges so I got you a cornish pasty.

Hit the nail on the head Ian. Schools are too soft unfortunately I never lived in the days of the 'cane' but I wish it was still available as some kids need it to wake up. I think once you leave school you should be forced ti go into the army if yiy haven't arranged an apprenticeship.

I did get the cane..and national service should be bought back..I'm mean we now live in a society where kids can sack their patents !
