Hi there

Would like to know what are the most important BSI Standards / European Stnadards for a tiling contractor. BSI Standards for a generic construction firm as well.

Sesons Greetings

Howard :santa_cheesy:

  • EN12004 - Adhesives for tiles: Requirements, evaluation of conformity, classification and designation
  • EN12002 - Adhesives for tiles: Determination of transverse deformation for cementitious adhesives and grouts
  • EN 13888 - Grouts for tiles: Definitions and specifications
  • EN14891 - Liquid applied water impermeable products for use beneath ceramic tiling bonded with adhesives: Requirements, test methods, evaluation of conformity, classification and designation (Liquid tanking membranes)
  • EN14411 - Ceramic tiles: Definitions, classification, characteristics and marking
  • EN ISO 10545 - Technical properties of ceramic tiles (15 parts, which you can skip unless you're REALLY interested)
  • CEN/TR 13548 - General rules for the design and installation of ceramic tiling
  • EN 13318 - Screed material and floor screeds: Definitions
  • EN 13813 - Screed material and floor screeds: Properties and requirements

Those are the ones I could think of which are relevant to tiling. There are others, but most of those are either quite old or too technical to be of any use to non-specialists.

if you have a spare £750 laying round for the full b.s 5385 parts 1-5 and around 150 every couple of years when they up date parts then buy them ,b.s 5385 should be free to any one who is a registered tiler with the citb or tile association in my opinion and the arguement that they are freely available at the library is nt a strong one as they are reference guides and should be readily availble without having to take a trip to the library and you only get 1 hour free to look at them, any more time you will have to pay ,the library computers are so slow it takes 20 minutes to load

Hi Guys

Would I be correct in assuming there is a hierachy of standards i.e. BSI, European and then world standards. Im just trying to get the whole picture. Ive been told by a quality guy that european tend to be similar to world standards. Would like to add news about relevant standards on my website via RSS - updates etc. As for BSI I too have been in the library but there are a lot of cross references - also you can only print 10 pages a time. Not sure whether these are called normative references - anyway. The best way to get access to all the standards is BSI Online annual subscription not sure how much this is though will post details later for anyone interested. When I have the standards what other information will I need to tile to British Standards?

Happy New Year!
Best Wishes

Hi Guys

Forgot to ask. Is their a way to compile a list of all standards - both BSI, European and World relating to tiling. This is what I intend to compile - are there experts out there I could consult?

Best Wishes

Howard
