Can you grout with tile adhesive?

I am so sorry that you are having these problems. In the end you want a beautiful job, which you are paying for. This guy has no idea and its this attitude among time served tilers that insist that its the way they have always done it that annoys me.....and yes i am a time served tiler of 32 years but i welcome new products and methods.

This is what the forum is all about, Tilers that care and want to learn as they go on.
You really need to stamp your feet on this one and tell him you are not happy with the quality. If you can see the problems then why cant he ?

Is there any way in the world to get the floor back up without damaging all the tiles, UFH and thermal boards? I really feel like starting over.

It's a cash in hand job, so I wouldn't think he has any insurance. My bathroom is only 5' x 7' and loo about 3 and a half by 2 and a half and didn't think it would take anything like the time it has taken. So far it's taken 9 days on a day rate of £120, to plaster the ceilings, plaster the loo walls, half plaster the bathroom, then half tile the rest of the bathroom and tile the floor on the loo and bathroom, and it's still not finished. It's taken forever and it doesn't look good to me.

I'm seriously thinking of getting the floor up and staring again. I wanted tiling up the front of the bath, but that will look stupid as is won't match the wall behind. I really don't know what to do.

If you're not happy with the work, you have to tell your tiler. he's entered into a contract with you (verbal or not, cash in hand doesn't matter), he's supposed to be supplying you with a quality job. if you think he's not, you have to tell him.

usually most tilers will have insurance to cover issues like this. if you're not happy with the work that's been done, he should pay out of his own pocket (or the insurance) to rectify the work. you might find that if you ask him to rectify the work he might do a bunk and leave you without a finished bathroom.

When he's back tomorrow, sit down with him and go through your concerns, asking him politely to put it right, to the standard you expect, and in the lay-out you require. And take it from there.

Hi GirlRacerRed, I've decided I definitely want it taken up and started over as I know it will annoy me for ever if I just leave it the way it is. Even if I can get him to correct for free, I'm going to need more tiles and possibly new UFH.

I just feel like pulling a cover over my head and not coming out till Spring.

So he has put those travertine tiles onto skimmed walls...?...Did he not mention weight limits for stone tiles onto certain substrates.?

And looking at the pics.....mmmmm..don't really like picking faults with other tradesmens work...but not good is it..


It's easy for us sitting here and saying pull them all up from the floor and off the walls but that decision is yours and before you do, you need to see who is footing the bill.?

And as mentioned above...doesn't look like much adhesive behind some tiles...thats a sign of spot fixing..

Just seen the photies, the job looks unbalanced too. I don't think insurance (public liability anyway) pay out for substandard work, only pay if persons or property gets damaged.
