been to follow up a car showroom enquiry from last year today.Customer is nearly ready for tiling. It has piped ufh embedded in concrete screed. To power the ufh he's going for a geo-thermal system but this won't be done till after tiling installation. I'm wondering if this is wise as a gradual warm up prior to tiling should detect any stresses etc. If I use ditra would this eliminate the need for a gradual warm up prior to tiling? Showroom is about 140m2

Bearing in mind my limited experience Doug, i would be tempted by the ditra too. It has excellent compressive strength and would all but eliminate any thermal stresses.

According to all the info on ditra it would seem to be your best bet.
Ditra is for any substrate that could be problematic.
In a way if the heating isn't turned on till tiling is complete then there
is expansion and contraction.

would deffo advise gradual warm up whitebeam, just wondering if it's ok to do after tiling. I'd normally do it before and after tiling

Spoke to schluter on the same subject and they reccomend that the heating system be tested and run before laying tiles but they also said that the system can be turned on gradually after laying the tiles with ditra after about a week. They were natural stone tile that I spoke to them about

Just thought I'd ask a question doug is the substrate power floated (super smooth)
Can anyone say what substrate is used on these systems. ( not gypsum based)

no Mick, its been hand screeded and floated with a plastic float. I know the guys who did it and I've no concerns on that score. As far as I'm aware it's a cement, not gypsum, based screed.
