Doug, I know its not really designed for this application but I have used it loads and know it can cope with the cracks which will likely appear in the screed once it starts to warm up.

I would go with BAL Green Screed. It would be worth having a chat with Dave Wilson the head of technical (call the tech help line).
I'm pretty sure he will agree.

Of course, if the job will stand the cost of Ditra then you've nothing to lose!

the screed itself GD has been down at least 6 monts now, customer just hasn't got round to setting his geo thermal unit for ufh sorted

Nah Doug, I wasn't recommending it for a fresh screed - more for the fact that once that heating goes on, it may start to act like one.
Just a thought is all...

Hi Doug,

I have attended two Schluter training sessions, and they really heavily emphasize sticking to the max 1/1.5 ratio that is discussed in this link:

The Right Movement Joint For The Right Job - Part 2 - Schlüter-Systems

For some reason I can't see any images, so I don't know if they are showing Schluter Dilex in some of those photos, but that is what we use most of the time to make movement joints in the field. My local Schluter rep is good and he will give me guidance when I need it as for as where to lay out the joints on a given job. The nice thing is about the comprehensive Schluter information is that it helps to defuse the inevitable arguments that arise with the architect, designer or homeowner, who most of the time don't want any movement joints in the installation (most of the time they don't know what a movement joint is and don't want to hear anything about it). It's hard for them to argue with the detailed info on Schluter's webiste.

car showroom ... has piped ufh embedded in concrete screed. To power the ufh ... won't be done till after tiling installation. ... If I use ditra would this eliminate the need for a gradual warm up prior to tiling? Showroom is about 140m2
Cheers
Doug

Hello Doug.
One of my tiler customers here had faced the same problem, it was a conventional water piped ufh in an Opel car store (called "Opel Autohaus in der Probstei GmbH, Eichkamp 11 in D-24217 Schönberg") next to the north german city Kiel. Ufh wasn´t on in the time he had to finish the tile works and - after advice by Schlueter Germany - he also installed Schlueter´s Ditra matting for decoupling purpose. Take this as reference.

Rob..we have to careful with some of the recommendations from schluter.com they are slightly different on some aspects to advice from schluter .uk.....

For instance......schluter.com ( usa) say that you can only use a non-modified thinset on ditra......schluter.uk say that a modified( flexible ) is fine.....so there seems to be a different spec for our country compared to the usa.......

just thought i would point that out Rob....

Hi Dave,

It's interesting to learn that Schluter is not putting out standard, across-the-board specs for everything. That non-modified thing here in the US has been a real thorny issue for several years now. I strenuously object to Schluter's reasoning on this, for a lot of reasons, but that would derail the purpose of this thread.

Back to Doug's original issue...is Dilex sold in the UK? And do you (setters in the UK) try to follow Schluter's max ratio of 1/1.5 and try to break up the fields of tile with soft joints?

There was a bit of confusion on this subject a while ago and it confirmed as you say about adhesives, don't understand the difference why you guys use one type and we use another
