Yes, that old chestnut folks!
I've advised customer of backer boards etc, but he happy to go with Bal Fastflex with the additive, along with superflex grout. Only snag is he's now had a fit at the materials price. I know I could convince him ok of the need, but have you successfully tiled onto CB with a cheaper alternative that is longlasting?
The tiles are 30x30 Ceramic, kitchen floor, 3 yr old bungalow, floor very solid..

Is the chipboard onto joist's( fixing's usually indicate this ) or is it tongue and grooved with no fixings.. normally laid on kingspan type insulation....hence floating floor( excessive movement)..........

If it is a suspended floor and not floating, have a look at Adrdex-flex 7001 and P51 primer. it is called the Ardex timber system. I can get the Ardex for around £27 a bag and you can get around 6-7m2 out of a bag if the floor is flat.

Thanks a lot fellas. If it's floating floor, does that limit the options further then?
I think it is actually. I will look at the Topps 2 part, price that out for him then the risk without guarantee is up to him. The job is through Topps so I will get materials from them (as I always do actually)

If it is a floating floor, it virtually eliminates the possibility of tiling onto it! The movement in the floor will crack the tiles pretty quickly in most cases.

Info Spot.

Chipboard in bathrooms the green stuff makes manufacturers cringe they are all scared of it.

The blame goes to good old central heating !

The changes in temp releases a wax used in the green board manufacture so muffs up adhesion.

Now you understand it

Thanks a lot. I know for future reference. The customer wants to go ahead with the Bal 2 part adi now. Bal specify it's ok on ChipB. I would have rather ply or tile backer board but hey ho, fingers crossed. I've told him no guarantee it won't crack!
