Chris, it does get easier. but are you using "mountain" bikes with big fat tyres and treads? as said above if your on the road all the time get some tyres designed for road and not off roaders.

when the weather get a bit better i will swop to semi slicks but im happy so far apart from the undercarriage agony

riding a lot better after only two rides timing gear changes well now and zoning in when going uphill

18 miles today mainly on road but steep ones me jacks crackers are great now new seat and a bit of messing about with positioning of the seat etc and im quite comfy got into the zone and it was fine

I had a little bit of trouble last week trying to get into my granny ring but i adjusted the front gear change thingy and it seems to of worked

going to go for a 1/2 dayr soon to see how far i can do

there is an app for all i phone which will track your route inc speed and height gain etc etc

its great if your a geek

A good number of years ago I was part of a team which rode from John O'Groats to Lands End.
We all had cycle shorts which included sheep skin under carriage!

I have a pair of oakley mountain bike shorts and wouldn't go out without them,lol.
Nicely padded undercarriage and tight lycra inners.
Sounds bad that,lol.
I have a mate wanting me to do a 60 or 100km mountain bike race in August !!! i haven't decided yet.

18 miles yesterday me jacks are fine now broken in at last but now i have realised putting on three stone since i gave up rugby might just might of effected my fitness levels

rode over at Cannock yesterday doing a trail called follow the dog through the forests and all sorts of stuff great fun only fell off twice no blood mate smashed his front wheel near the end

it was the same trail that was on the gadget show last night which was a bit spooky they had better bikes

30 miles yesterday bit knackered today but feel ok otherwise want a new bike now

25 miles today same route as last week but went uphill so shorter in miles but harder on the engine

feel fine a bit too fine need to really start to push it now

Nice one, and it will get much easier. Brother in law moved to New Zealand few years back and had never cycled. Took it up at 45 and now does 150km rides on a weakly basis through the hilly roads of Auckland.

I was out in a forest today with mud stuck to my maxxis tyres sliding over tree roots and rocks etc! Phew, hard going.
I have an app on my iPhone called motion x and it's a GPS tracker. Brilliant.
It tracks me on the bike, shows a map of my route, distance, average speed, top speed,altitude etc. Class app and at £0.59 a bargain to get. Grab it quick folks as it's on offer I think. I had the light version which only saved one route but the full version saves loads.

I use Runkeeper which is the same type of app and it's the dogs dangaly bits. Tried motion x, but found Runkeeper much better......

I have well specced Saracen zen hardtail, fox forks, halo rims etc.
A real tight bike and does the job well, we had over 9k of bikes between 6 of us today. Lol. Back suspension would have been handy though.

want a new one big time i keep crashing into my mate as disk brakes do stop you and cals just slow you down

i can see me getting obsessed with all this stuff just had my 1st wiggle order come and i was more excited than when a tradetilers delivery turned up

C2C runs pretty near to me. Some killer hills early on, 3 days you need to be able to do an easy 30 miles on the saddle on up and down roads and still breath, walk and talk at the end and the next day. Once you get past the North Pennines its actually pretty much all down hill to the coast on old railways. Sadly the first two days involve some muderous climbs in the Lakes and then again up and down and back up through the Pennines to Allenheads and on to the top above Stanhope. Nice cafe at Park Head. Then down the Waskerley. Smooth.

Good luck, wear a lid and make sure you use chamois gel or a banana
