Most of the jobs we do recently the customer wants brick bond style, I have noticed on quiet alot of jobs, that there is a slight curve along the tile( so the middle of the tile is proud of the corners). Not a prob normal tiling, but with brick bond, the corners of one tile are below the proud part of another tile, causing lipping, job I have just finished(pics coming soon). Took alot longer because of all the playing around I had to do to make it look right , told customer, she was adament on brick work, so I cracked on, I always find out if tile has curve now, and infom the customer, and if they insist, the price will be going up, Just thought I'd share that with you, cheers rav

yes they are getting bad best to let customer know even if laying strait just put two tiles face to face infront of customer then they will belive you :8:

Hi Rav ,I know the problem well,as Jay says show the customer how bad they are.Instead of Brick Bond, set them a third, every 20cm if they are 60 x 30.This normally keeps lipage to a minimum depending on how bad the Tiles are!
:8:2balls

i agree it's a common fault on lods of tiles, allways best to show the faults to the peeps to make them awear:thumbsup:

Its common on ceramic not porcelain tiles, because ceramic is quite thin and extruded when it gets fired the heating then cooling which occurs causes the tiles to become slightly concave. This isnt a new thing and fixers used to get blamed for laying hollow tiles when really they had missed the fact the centre of the tile needed a little extra adhesive....................

Hi wetdec, Totally agree withyou, however when you fill the hollow, butter and float for example, you will still have lipage on curved tiles(Banana`s).I have laid Porcelain Banana`s as well!

i face similar problems a lot too.
I showed customers before but they still wanted brickbond,i was using 5mm spacers so that helped a bit! done the job(280m2 full house),i get call, shadows on kitchen floor:yikes:.
Turns out the spark put LED lights in kicker boards and just wrecked and chance i had of a peacefull life,lol.13 tiles i had to lift!! made no difference,i told them that i had discussed this with them but they were with holding money from builder who was paying me!! nasty people,if i had knew there was LEDs going in i certainly would not have bricked !! advise there lads. And yes the tiles were bent.

and nobody notices until the downlighters are switched on when the jobs done:yikes:

I have seen this many times on porcelain, especially 600x300, you can stick a 50p through the curve sometimes.

:yikes:
