In other industries you need a certificate to use grinders

I use mine for plunge cuts for sockets and the occasional removal of material for awkward 45deg mitres on ceramic tiles, but I minimize use for dust reasons and I'm always a bit nervous of a blade shattering tbh.

Used mine last week on some composite granite floor tiles. Much quicker that my wet cutter.

Duro blades are quite good and cheap too. Variety of qualities available too.

Thinking about a new one and looked at a Milwaukee 18v lithium battery one the other day, went off that at the £247 price tag!

Many sites will ask to see your 'abrasive wheell card' if your using a grinder, I have seen this as a requirement on job advertisements also.

My scaffolders were told they couldnt use a grinder on site to cut down some oversize poles. Bought themselves battery reciprocating saws instead

I was working with 20mm thick limestone the other week so used my grinder to clean up the internal corners of cuts, as my wet cutter blade is too small.

The grinder comes in handy for all sorts of jobs, IMO.

Best way to prevent this is visual inspection before each time you use the blade.

Always ensure that the max rpm printed on the blade does not exceed the rpm on your grinder.

Choose the correct cutting disc for the job e.g. silicon carbide or diamond etc

The correct way to cut a curve to minmise chance of injury would be to do it in several straight cuts (the bl;ade isnt designed to bend remember) and the correct way to grind is with a grinding disc rather than using a cutting disc (many of us will grind with a cutting disc, I can hold my hands up here. lol)

This is the type of thing that is covered on the training when attaining an abrasive wheel card.

use one 99 % of the time . hate wet cutters , water spray everywhere . fixing wet / damp tiles , not good. lose cutting lines.
easy to cut holes squares with grinder .
may be use wet cutter for mitres ,but thats it

Always worth having a small grinder about to make cuts.

This is ours.

To put a plug socket in we drilled out the corners from the front of the tile. So that it guarantees the blade will not run on.

Cut the front of the tile with the grinder

Pop the socket in. Perfect fit every time. Works on Large format porcelain tiles.
