diamond hole cutters

No one can really say how long they will last as we dont know what you are drilling into. I can certainly say that as long as you use a wet sponge to cool and clean the drill bits as shown in the videos on the website for 365 drills they will last a lot longer that you will expect.
I have been using 365 Drills for quite a while now and have no reason to change.

Just because they are a site sponsor it doesnt mean i will "big" them up, I say they are good because they are !

Today i used a armeg PTC 7mm bit on Fired Earth porcelain.....4 holes under correct conditions then the tip snapped......PTC carbides are junk, Diamond cores are fantastic

Ordered a Armeg diamond core on 7mm today so will post up how long it lasts,Cost from CTD £43 per drill

365 cores have better quality diamonds than other sets... so until you have tried then you cannot compare IMHO..


My (365) 35 mm hole cutter has just cut it's last hole..and i would say i have cut around a 100 holes with it... about 30 of those were porcelain and the rest ceramics and stone tiles..

So this is well beyond what you would expect from these type of core drill bits.

i wouldnt even compare the 2 brands as i dont believe it would be fair on either of the companies. They are in different leagues.

I have no idea how many holes my 365 kit has done but i know its a lot.

Nelson when comparing the merekats - here is some pricing for you

The Armeg PTC equipment relies on a water delivery feed system comprising a water tank (£20.54) an arbor (£41.10) and a water delivery pipe (£10.27) plus a pilot drill or 8mm PTC centre pilot (£29.79) costing you a total of £182.86.

Next the crowns you will need that are as close to the BFKMX are a 19mm (£59.99) 36mm (£74.99) 44mm (£89.99) with a separate total of £224.97

If you add a 6mm PTC bit it will put £25.68 to the total.

Final bill: £433.51 and you will then have a 6mm a 8mm PTC carbide bit. And three crowns at 19mm 36mm and 45mm.

You can buy a bundle kit for £205.52 but you will need to buy an 8mm PTC carbide bit for the extra £29.79 to run it plus a 6mm PTC carbide bit for those red plugs. So your start cost would be £235.31 without the £25.68 6mm PTC bit. After that you will need to continue to replace those £29.79 PTC bits on a regular basis as they are made of carbide steel so have a limited lifespan.

If however you decide to buy a 365drills holesaw kit then you will pay £49.99 (less your forum discount). At this price on expensive porcelain tile jobs (ie tiles alone costing £3000) you can add it to your customers invoice as a disposable consumable item priced into the job.

The beauty of adding it as a consumable is that you never have to pay for the kit (your client does) because you can leave it behind with instructions that should your client ever want to put up extra things at a later date like a mirror or shelf they have the use of the kit saving them the cost of you coming back to site and charging them half a days pay.

Its great that you are pricing up your outlay ahead of a purchase (a lot of people just walk into their local tile shop and pay big bucks for similar gear) and a prudent attitude during these difficult times should be applauded.

Cost is irrelevant to me, I want something that will last and be reliable for me no diamond grit edged holesaw will do this

Comment noted - Just keep us in mind if you ever need a hole-saw or core for a special size that is not stocked by the others!

Richard, thanks for the great info.I have in fact just made an online payment for the basic set for £50. I read the web site info after and it says each cutter is good for about 6 to 8 holes ( in porcelain i guess ) or more if you use water as you drill.I thought that sounded quite a low figure! I've lost the page now,so did I mis-read that? I can't argue with the price though.very reasonable.
As for your point about treating them as a consumable, I don't know if i would feel funny about adding it to an invoice.I've only just started up on my own, having done the NVQ2, and so havent got many jobs behind me yet, wouldn't a customer expect hole cutters (and all tools) to be something I would have to provide? or at least one could just incorporate the cost into initial quote and keep them for next job? I'm finding it very difficult at mo, i've been undercut on three jobs in a row now,so if I get the chance to make a bit of money back i'm going to have to!

You spotted one thing. You missed another!

1) You spotted the lifespan claims (well done) yes we try to give some general indication on how much wear and tear these can endure. As a ball park figure we quote "about ten" holes each which gives you a total of 40 holes for the small sizes of 6mm an 8mm because there are 4 cores in the top pack. On softer material like ceramic tiles a lifespan of 200 holes per drill bit is achievable. So it really depends on the material you are drilling and how you use them.

The small drills will cut "about" ten holes each giving you 40 holes per pack in the BFKMX

I agree you you might not be comfortable adding the cost of the kit to the job as a consumable. So instead of doing it that way here's another way of thinking. If you are asked to quote a PORCELAIN tile job with an average 37 square meter of tiles costing your client £40psm they will have spent £1480 on tiles alone. Add 10% wastage and they are expecting to lose £148 on wasted tiles. That means they have spent £1627 just on tiles. Add to that the adhesive, grout, white goods, first fix plumbing and electrics plus other items like undefloor heating, tanking kits etc then your client has invested about £5K on the job. Whatever you do make sure you cost in at least £50 to drill the holes on that job. Because on hard grade porcelain you can expect fair wear and tear.

PS: One code we CAN publish (because its on the 365drills site) is that if you want to save postage of £1.80 on the SPONGE then type codeword: SPONGE on checkout

Some people were annoyed that the postage for the BFKMX @ £49.99 is £2.99 and for a £1.75 sponge is £1.80 ( 5p More than the actual sponge). So a BFKMX and a Sponge combined postage would be £4.79. And a few compaints came our direction

But to clarify our postage is set for £2.99 for the first BFKMX and then £1.80 for the next BFKMX or other drill pack. So its good value for money.

But we cant switch off the postage formula for the Sponge. The cart just sees it as a second item in the basket and treats it as a £50 item. Anyway if anyone is reading this and wants free postage on the sponge then SPONGE is your code !!!!
