do i need to prime ply?

as per the title. decided to lay a new fllor. fresh ply. do i need to prime it? thanks guys. ill get the hang of this yet.

Read the instructions on ya adhesive bag.....normally you do not prime face side of ply but check with manufacturer first...

I always prime wood as even marine ply will take in water and as plywood coming into UK is not as good as it was several years ago a thin coat of a good primer helps with adhesion

tend to give most ply a coat of primer now,for all it costs its better to be safe than sorry!

dont use Bal much really and i know what Russ is saying but im with Davy on this one ,i always prime ply face side.

Hi mate, really depends upon which brand and type of adhesive you use. I use mapei keraquick ply floors. No need to prime

Davy apparantly yes as you have not followed the exact BAL instructions on the bag...they say to prime the underside of ply....side that goes against the substrate.

hi guy's. i am using topps trade multi flex adhesive. i read the very small print and it did say i needed a primer. typical. shops shut now. ill prime it all tomorrow. thanks for all the advice guys.

AlThough I mentioned that most Mapei adhesives are suitable for ply without priming, they do make a primer suitable for plywood, primarily used prior to self levelling, although the PDF data sheet says also suitable for preparation prior to applying cementious adhesives.
