Just wondered if people checked floor tiles as they lay them by tapping to check for hollow spots where the adhesive has covered the whole space under the tile.

I have just laid 25+ m2 of 450mm and found this morning that one tile slap bang in the middle of the kitchen floor, just where everyone walks, has that hollow sound in one quarter :icon9:

Don't suppose there is much option but to chop it out and lay another one but what a pain:mad2:

No big deal just smash it up and pull it out and reglue, the addy should still be "Green" better now than latter when it's all grouted and fully hardened.

It's funny you mention drummy tiles as I just finished laying about 20m2 of 600x600 polished porcelain absolutely "PERFECT" NO Lipping as flat as glass and while i was packing up for the day I dropped my tape measure and it took the slightest chip out of the corner of 1 tile GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! :mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2: Had to dig it up and re-glue................before leaving.

Took 1 hour.

You should pull up the odd tile during laying them to check coverage! Not wait untill it's too late to sort it out!
That's in the BS.

Typical! It's always the case when you're just about to set off hey?

And I'd cleaned the addy bucket and the tiles were laid with 1mm joints :mad2:

You just gotta love Friday :lol:

I always check the floors and walls, had to remove a splash back from floor to ceiling,2 tiles wide 400mmx300mm the next day as they where all boast and the back of the tile impression on the adhesive and still soft this was the tub
stuff

I find that with experience you will be able to feel as you lay tiles if they are embedded solid....it's hard to describe but you can tell as you are fixing whether the tile is well bedded......the pros will know what i mean though.....
And while you are spreading your adhesive bed, you can feel slight dips etc in the feel of the trowel so adjust the bed to suit....this feel as i call it will come with experience.....trust me....
