definately right in what you're saying about market satuation. everyone has jumped on the wagon, and like you say, people are just after the cheapest.
I worked as a plasterer part time and the reported £200 a day turned out to more like half that. not really all that good for such back breaking work. So what with all these schools turning out 'tradesmen' by the thousand and not to mention the influx of migrant workers its getting so more and more people are chasing less and less work so I believe being multiskilled may give you the edge.
Still, its always nice to have a regular wage supplimented by a few nice little earners so good luck with the doors or whatever else you're up to (you are still SIA I take it?)

Sorry to see you go Raja. Please excuse me for not writing an essayesque answer, but I just wrote one in another thread, so my brain is a bit worn at the moment 🙂

Funny post really, and don't know exactly the best way to answer....

With the looks of it you have only done the kinds of advertising that required the smallest effort on your part, which is the most expensive forms of advertising as well, which if you have not got a wide reputation with dozens of builders\ tile shops and other trades, then your only going to get a slither of the market that actually looks in Yellow pages.

I guess if you are not willing to make a real effort to find work then there is nobody to blame but yourself for the work not coming in.

This isn't a post getting at you what so ever, it just seems strange to have spent so much money to be a full time self employed tiler, and to put very little effort into getting yourself the work coming in, when there is soo much compertition around.

Good luck for the future raja.

Fekin you speak the truth and i agree 100% with what you have said.

Also SiR Ramic u speak the truth and i agree 100% with what you have said.

A man said to me on this very forum somthing which was also very true he said "It is 1 thing being a good tiler and totally another thing being a good business man" the former maybe but the latter certainly i have not been able to achieve.

sorry to hear that raja but i say NEVER GIVE UP if your a good tiler which im sure you are there will be work for you out there ive just recentley set up and ive been ringin loads of kitchen, bathroom, conservatory companiens in the preston and blackburn area and ive heard nothing from them but im going to keep pestering them in hope of them giving up and saying "oh its that Pr**k again lets give him sum work to stop him ringin and im going to keep ringing until they give up ive tried a couple of builders aswell and just left my details

A GOOD SAYING OF MY " A GOOD FIGHT U NEVER KNOW UR STRENGHTH UNTIL UVE BEEN TESTED"

just as long as you are a regular on here Raj as i really enjoy your posts m8. Whatever you need to do work wise is your decision and yours alone, if worrying about it is getting you down then you are doing the right thing. Pumpning the streets with flyers is soul destroying especially when you've been working for 6 years! etc etc. Anyway, whatever happens good luck to you and keeeeeeeeep posting.

Sorry to hear that you are leaving, but like everyone has said stick at it. I wrote about 25 letters at the atart of the year to builders, property developers and a few plumbers explaining my case, nothing to begin with until I followed them all up and got in with a local succesful builder who has now unindated me with work, I hate to tell you this but im really busy at mo and even giving jobs to friends i know in the trade, for a small fee of course.
So stick at it and try another avenue of selling yourself!!!!

If you've got more work than you can handle yourself, perhaps you should sieze the opportunity and expand your business. Try employing a good tiler who isn't into the whole businessman thing. If it works out, and you get some sort of profit, hunt for more work with other builders. That's what I would do.

It's kind of like with the ladies; if you're already seeing someone, it seems you're instantly more attractive to others.

Yeah have thought of that but want to leave it another month or so then will action some plans that I have. A friend maybe be coming onboard once hes all qualified up

sorry to hear that, whats your plans now?
business is always up and down? so if you keep your hand in things should pick up!

sorry to hear you are giving up on a job you love doing so much,we all wish wee could say something to make you change your mind, life has its ups and downs and it is the same for work, but my motto is a winner never quits and a quitter never wins, you may change your mind, but if not i wish you every success for the future mate..:grouphug:
