What is the expected life of blades used for a wet saw, ie which blades give you guys good quality cuts, with good weekly useage and last the longest?

For example if i bought a montolit DNA blade which would be actualy cutting say 20 porcelain tiles a day maybe 3 days a weeks how long could i expect it to last?

Sorry if the question sound stupid.

Cheers,

Stefan

blades tend to have a life span of metres, and it all depends on the quality, cheap ones can last as little as a few weeks with some tough tiles and where as marcist blades will last a few months

i tend to put cheap blades( 2 for about £8) for ceramics and a good blade for porcelain/stone and a seperate blade for glass

Thanks for the replys, the reason i was asking is because i'm seriously considering buying a montolit brooklyn cutter, as i've discussed here http://www.tilersforums.com/tiling-tools/36196-need-manual-electric-cutter.html was considering getting the montolit dna blade, but on 2nd thoughts can't justify it, because of the cost, i have contacted a blade manufacturer over here who is making pretty descent blades for around 20pounds, they export them all over the world inc. UK I wonder which brands are selling them. Initialy i was concerned that i would get the same size, as there is so many different types and sizes.

Cheers,

Stefan

I'd be looking at more than £20 for a blade IMO
Actually these blades are what the marble/granite processing companies use, as i'm in Goa, India, my concern is vfm as well as quality, once i get the cutting machine, i think i will give this blade that's on offer before i import anything expensive. We are using a bosch 110mm blade for our hand held cutter which costs about a fiver here, which is an excellent blade and last well, this is the most expensive i have seen over here, it also works well dry on a grinder, no chipping!

I've had a rubi cpc in my wet cutter for 2 years, and it's cut loads and loads of metres, I keep a santone block in the tray and run the blade through it when it starts to tire, this exposes new diamonds underneth and gets rid of the rounded non cutting ones:thumbsup:
2 years! that's excellent. we just run our blades through a soft brick(Sun dried) which does the trick.

I bought a Faithfull sintered blade for my little Vitrex Pro cutter, and it's done loads of porcelain/ceramic/stone cuts, I put it on in October of last year, and it doesn't look as if I've used it!!

Great stuff, these are 20squids aren't they?

My blade costs in excess of £80, I have bought 4 in 7 years for my sigma 10m, They are Italian made and are the dogs dooglies.

That's almost 2 years usage per blade 7 pounds per month of usage, not bad, what blade is it and what kind of tiles do you cut?

We do alot of granite/marble and sandstone work, which comes in slabs between 4-7 ft in length and 3.5ft wide and 18mm thick, so you can imagine processing these to a usable size takes a lot of effort and many meters of cutting, all done on site.

My 10m is on its third blade now in 5 years,i used the proper sigma 300mm blade first two(one free with cutter) then my current one is Diatech supplied through a local retailer. It is going strong and i suspect that sigma make these for Diatech:thumbsup:,cheaper than the sigma blades.

I use trimline in Surrey for my blades as they supplied the cutter and I know them well. I cut all types of materials with it from soft stone to porcelain and granite. It has very fine almost hair thin segments on it. The blade in the picture is about 2 years old.
