Hi All,

Have been asked to form a 'tray' for a wetroom, on a concrete floor. Is this possible ?? How would i form the falls required ?? What would i use, concrete, adhesive other ?? What would the cost be ?? Obviously it is easier to use a pre-formed tray but i assume cost is a major factor. Personally, i would prefer the pre-formed tray but would like advice on how to do this, if its possible, how difficult it is etc etc.

Thanks, Simon

what about using a channel type outlet? that way you could get your concrete to fall in one plane. I'll try and find a link:thumbsup:

Forming a wetroom 'tray' on concrete

Many factors are involved in this.

What type of drain? Standard (1 or 2 drains) or Channel, Trench or Slot.

Is it new construction?

Is any concrete all ready there?

Do you have to remove the old concrete first?

Many of the Channel drain sites have great cross sections and even design layout for a new construction pre pour forming.

Can someone fill me in more with your requirments for poly under slabs, slab requirements, perimeter foundation drainage, etc.

Doug, Not what i'm looking for m8. The drain is in the middle of the floor and they want a tray formed into/around that. Does this make sense ?? Trying to explain things when you're not sure yourself isn't easy !!!!

So you will have to screed the falls in yourself, have you any experience of doing this type of work? It will be a sand/cement screed or you could use 20mm marmox and cut the falls into place,a tray former will take all the hassle away.

I agree with Dom, (Diamond Tiling) a preformed tray would be my way to go in this instance.(I didn't realise drain was already in-situ too:thumbsup:)

Yes the drain is in, the plumber just needs to put the trap in. I'm expected to make the falls. The floor is new screeded floor and they have placed shuttering within the screed to form a hollow of 1800 x 900 x 70. I would need to form the falls within this area, and that is what is concerning me. I have no experience in this type of work and imagine it is not as easy as it may seem. Is a tray former the same as a pre-formed tray ?? I have already told customer that i have not done this before and have recommended a pre-formed tray, but i wouldn't mind getting to grips with this. I just need to know how to go about it.

Tray former and pre formed tray are the same thing. When the pot is in you will have to have something higher to screed back to, you could form an outer square with timber that is higher than the pot, 10mm should be plenty, screed back to your timber forming 4 falls, as you look down on it it should be 4 equal falls to the pot.
Tray former would take all these issues away and its waterproof when installed correctly.

If you have 70mm in depth then use a preformed tray, The labour to make the correct falls will be more than the cost of the tray, Use a fast setting SLC that can go to 50mm depth then place TUFF2 former or similar on top or you could use a WEDI wetroom tray and pack up with 30mm WEDI board
