A beast, weren't they part of the class b rally cars that were deemed to be to fast because they had no restrictions ?

Yup. Group B was the absolute pinnacle of rallying. Too many deaths, drivers and public so it got banned.
I remember as a kid watching Lancia Deltas and 205 T16's flying round Chatsworth estate. I'll never forget the sounds, smells and seeing a detached finger stuck in the front air intake on a Lancia!
